Set in the "Smallville" universe, "M:SCU" sets the action back in Metropolis, in a world where superheroes are becoming the norm, and the regular police are finding themselves more and more out of their element. Metropolis has always been a place of mystery and the bizarre but has seen a lot more strange things over the last few years. In response to the growing number of vigilantes patrolling the streets and the rising occurrences of criminals demonstrating beyond-the-norm abilities, Metropolis City Mayor Frank Berkowitz grudgingly authorised the formation of a new division, the Special Crimes Unit.

The Unit, originally a joke within the Metropolis Police Department, is now under the command of Captain Maggie Sawyer, a tough as nails woman who has walked the beat for many a year and developed a reputation as a person who knows how to gets things done while being known for having a short temper when it comes to bureaucracy interfering with proper police work. Now drawn into the spotlight after a particularly media-sensitive case, the Unit will encounter not just problems dealing with the cases that come across her desk, the ones no-one else wants to investigate, but it will also deal with the usual friction between people when they first come together in a strange situation.

The virtual series (in essence a script-based fan fiction that also 'casts' actors in the roles featured and conducts 'behind-the-scenes' interviews and spoilers for upcoming episodes and storylines) features several returning guest characters from the original "Smallville" series as 'series regulars', as well as many new never-seen-before characters and actors based on DC Comics characters.

Episode 1x01 - Formation
SERIES PREMIERE. When super-strength powered thieves attempt to rob the LexCorp building but end up kidnapping a young up and coming scientist instead, Captain Maggie Sawyer (Jill Teed) of Metropolis' Special Crimes Unit is assigned the case. She recruits Officer Danny Turpin (David Paetkau) to help with the investigation, and works alongside lab tech Wally West (Fran Kranz), medical examiner Dr. Beth Chapel (Tembi Locke) and STAR Labs scientist Dr. Kitty Faulkner (Felicia Day) in an effort to prevent her department from being dissolved, and to prove the need for it in a world with superheroes.

I usually struggle with the script format but found this one easy to read. Your descriptions of the settings were quite evocative. I like the premise of focussing on normal people in a world with superheroes.

thank you :D M:SCU was a passion project several years in the making and I stuck with it for a while. I haven't really revisited the characters in the last few years, been focusing more on Trek-related projects, both in script form and prose. But I hope to go back to them some day and at least finish the 2nd season. :)
