Methods of time travel - well known?

Something that's occurred to me - is the slingshot method of time travel well known to people? Were the whales from TVH said to have been picked up from a colony planet?

Does the future features 100s of people a year as they die while trying to slingshot around the sun to fix a mistake in their past?


What about the Guardian of Forever? kept secret forever?

I've often wondered that. Regarding the Guardian of Forever, I'm surprised that didn't carry the weight of General Order 7 behind it. By comparison, contact with Talos IV is much less damaging.

There must be people all over the galaxy doing their own little time travel tricks... either the timeline is constantly changing, all the changes across the universe cancel out, or future Starfleet (or other such organisations) are constantly policing and cleaning up the timeline.

It seems odd that the only people who can have a direct effect on the timeline are our heroes. With the exception of Annorax, who was just pottering around one sector of space doing his own thing with no external interference...

I'm assuming people start to get better at time travel further forward in time you go (i.e Rasmussen stealing a ship) but remember you had future Starfleet in Voyager with people like Captain Braxton and Lt. Ducane cleaning up any serious temporal incursions.
