Metamorphosis

Thanks for the insight! I vaguely remember reading the Andorian stuff on your site now that you recap it, and I can believe the Darryl Adin thing, given the clampdown on continuing original characters that seemed to happen around the same time. (And Adin and company do feel a little gratuitous, though somewhat necessary since Lorrah needed Data to have sex with a woman, and I don't think any member of the Enterprise crew would have worked for that. I did notice when rereading Survivors that one of Adin's gang, Sdan, is implied to be a descendant of a character from Lorrah's original series novel The IDIC Epidemic.)
IIRC, this novel's manuscript was also caught up in the sudden Crusher/Pulaski switch, and initial resistence to using lorrah's original characters from the novel "Survivors", the last Yar novel, originally called "A Question of Security".
That surprises me, because Lorrah has an impressively good grasp on Pulaski's character. (I mean, she really captures the whole crew, to be honest, down to Riker's openness to all experiences. I wish she'd done more tNG books.) It feels exactly right that La Forge and Pulaski are the only two crewmembers to recognize Data in his human form without any prompting.
