Metacritic Score: Wolverine - 42, Trek - 100

Well, sorta.

Wolverine has garnered itself an actual score from Metacritic of 42, while Trek has only got two reviews so it hasn't actually qualified for a Metacritc score yet, however, the scores from Variety and The Hollywood Reporter were both 100.

This is definitely a good sign because let's be honest, as much as we want a great Trek Movie, we don't want Wolverine taking away from the gross. I'm sure Wolverine's going to have a good weekend but I don't think it's going to be as good as predicted because people already know how lousy it is.

Hell, last month I considered seeing it but after these reviews, I'll wait to rent the Blu Ray.

In no small part because the Wolverine movie (or at least a not-quite finished version of same) has already been pirated and leaked. Which, of course, will probably hurt that movie's box-office take by itself.

I'll still go see it this weekend or maybe on a weeknight next week, but as far as I'm concerned it will be merely a warm-up act.

Don't go see Wolverine!! You'll hate yourself for it. I saw it opening night in the UK last night, and it really is as lousy as the reviews suggest!

dont bother seeing it cap! its not very good. all three x-men movies were by far superior.i was bored to tears by it!

Well, with another review added Star Trek is still at 100 percent at Rotten Tomatoes and Wolverine is now at 44 percent. I don't know how often RT and metacritics correspond so closely with one another, but it is interesting.

I think that on balance a big success for Wolverine would be a positive thing for Star Trek. "A rising tide lifts all boats," as they say - if folks go out and drop big bucks on the first "summer movie" and have a great time, how do you suppose that affects their willingness to go see the next one a week later (especially if it's been even better reviewed)? If they feel ripped off by the first, how do you think that affects their attitude?

Wolverine has a rating of about 7 at IMDb, so the average movie-goer will probably enjoy it.

IMDB users are the average movie-goer, despite the overinflated sense of self-importance they have.

Well, not counting all the people that vote 1 or 10 without even having seen the movie they're voting for.

So even though Star Trek focuses more on physics and astronomy than Wolverine, Jackman's film manages to defy the laws of physics by both sucking AND blowing at the same time

The "ironing" is delicious

I don't understand that logic.

It also has an A- from user reviews on Yahoo Movies. The average movie-goer, and I include myself, can watch a lot of movies that "critics" give bad reviews to.

I have always wondered about the yahoo user reviews... people like some pretty awful movies according to it. I have always wondered if there weren't people paid by the studio going to write reviews. That, or people with yahoo accounts love bad movies. I suppose that fits.

They are about as reliable as Blockbuster Online user reviews.
