Messge from Shatner to JJ

Did anyone explain to Shatner that Jurassic Park was a movie, not a documentary? No DNA fragments survive from 160million years ago, believe me I know, I'm a geneticist...!

We'd still have to address the fact that Kirk DIED in "Generations", and there'd have to be some explanation before Shatner could do anything as Kirk.

I don't understand how this would preclude Shatner's involvement in the movie. People should stop being so linear, the older Spock's part in the movie could take place before Kirk's death.

It used to be that you had to copy/paste the various quotes, which was tedious, but that is now no longer necessary -- Multi-Quote makes it simple to quote as many people as you like. I don't want to make any more of a deal about it than I have already, so give it a try -- it's really nice. :)

I can't get Multi-Quote to work on my iMac w/Firefox. recently i haven't been able to copy/paste while posting either, although I can copy from previously published posts. I need to upgrade.

True.
But how would you explain that Kirk looks now significantly older than before he died?

This just keeps getting better! :techman:

A Trek pissing match. Just the thing to distract us from another month or so of no new info about the movie.

Give him hell, Abrams! :scream:

Give him Gre'Thor, Shatner! :klingon:

That might be a question to put to Antony in the Tech Support section in QS&F. It sounds like something of which he ought to be made aware.

Rampant temporal syntho-steroid abuse?

What version of Firefox? I'm running a relatively old Macbook Pro (2.16Ghz C2D) with OSX 10.5 and Firefox 3. Multi-Quote works perfectly.

In Shatner's defense, the quote in question does heavily imply a back-and-forth dialog about the specific cameo in question, without ever going so far as to expressly say that the cameo as written was ever presented to Shatner for approval.

In Abrams' defense, if Shatner had already made it clear that he would not do a cameo, then there was really no reason to submit that particular cameo to Shatner, especially since Abrams didn't seem too fond of it anyway.

What does seem odd is Shatner's need to clarify a fairly trivial distinction while at the same time practically begging Abrams for a part in the next movie. It's as if he's trying to justify himself to his fans, while at the same time, pointing out that his potential boss is wrong in the middle of a job interview (for a job he seems to really want).

The only way that any of this makes sense is if they are still moving ahead with Sam Cogley's Boston Legal-style Ending, as most of the Hollywood trades are now reporting.

JJ will probably have to bring Kirk back in his sequel 'cause no audience is gonna accept that gay kid as kirk

You know, you keep repeating that as if it were true, but so far it sounds a lot like an audience of one making an assertion for which no support has yet been provided (and no, that one photo of what you called a "metrosexual Chris Pine" does not constitute any sort of valid support.)

Maybe Beyerstein hooked up with Pine and has personal knowledge.
The tone of his posts on the subject to date make that seem... somewhat unlikely, but I'll invite him to post something more substantial than the drive-by potshots he's been taking. Or to knock it off -- either way.

Much as I love Shatner, and thrilled as I am that he is doing so well, I was somewhat disturbed to find this:

I was flipping through one of the many lawyer magazines I get every month and came across a full page ad in Trial Magazine (September 2008 issue).

Any time Shatner is on the same page as Erik Estrada, we have hit a new low.

I can't imagine any self-respecting law firm hiring him to do commercials when the guy plays an out-of-control, demented lawyer on t.v.

EDIT: This firm, I guess:

 I hope that's not a real e-mail.

How about the "soap opera baby turning into a teenager in 5 years syndrome"?

Seriously, don't bother with an explanation for this. There will probably be far more things needing explaining in the movie such as . . .

. . . What is Chekov doing here if he wasn't in "Space Seed"?

. . . Why is Uhura so thin?

. . . Why is a black man playing Scotty?

. . . What's up with the fan blades on Enterprise's engines?

. . . Why do the nacelles glow blue?

. . . Why is Pike's captain's hat a sombrero?

Stuff like this ;)

That's not new.

I've seen Shatner speaking on commercials for law firms a few years ago. They aired on Fox in the Buffalo, NY area during the fake TV court shows, and perhaps he's done others as well which I haven't seen. Those commercials are always for the types of lawyers who help with auto accidents or workplace injuries or disability forms etc.

Shatner was actually very good on that lawyer ad I saw. He was making it clear how you want these lawyers because they are tough & relentless. I actually woulda hired those lawyers based on Shatner's recommendation in that commercial if I had been in a situation where I needed them.
