Message in a Bottle

The Doctor is definitely the funniest Character of the Series, maybe of the whole franchise!

" EMH: Stop breathing down my Neck!

EMH2: My breath is merely a simulation.

EMH: So is my neck. Stop it anyway!"

That's funny!

Yup

My own personal favourite:

"Who would have thought that this eclectic group of voyagers could actually become a family? Starfleet, Maquis, Klingon, Talaxian, hologram, Borg, even Mister Paris"

:rommie:

This episode killed the premise of the series. The whole point was that they were lost on the other side of the galaxy and no one in Federation space knew where they were.

Then all of a sudden they could contact Federation headquarters, just like a telephone call from Los angeles to San Francisco.

Silly!

Not really, this was a one time shot. They had to wait for Barclay, two whole seasons later to establish a monthly exchange of messages.

Doctor:Let's just say, I made an addition to my programme.
EMH2: Before you leave, maybe you could download those subroutines into my database.
Doctor: We'll see.

Does this mean that the mark 2 is also out there servicing various ensigns and lieutenants with it's new equipment

The Doctor is a good guy, I am sure he did share his... subroutines...

No, he just likes to cup it to seem wise and invested.

Like Michael Jackson you mean?

But they did get in touch with Earth then, despite being 65 lightyears or so from Earth.

And it did ruin the premise of the series.

But they should have been able to message HQ in the very first episode. From TNG's WNOHGB when the Enterprise is 2.7m light years from Earth. Data says that a supspace message should be recieved by Starfleet in 51 years 10 months which means a subpsace message travels at around 52 000ly per year so around 16 months after VOY got stranded in the DQ starfleet would no were they where at least 16 months earlier.

Not if Starfleet HQ was in the shadow of the galactic core which would scramble the message or absorb it completely, not to mention all the shit that Voyager encountered on the way that interferes with communications.

What!!

And that bitch Janeway knew about this

I like "message in a bottle" as an episode (it's good fun and Picardo and Dick have noticeably good chemistry) but yeah, i agree, it went against the premise.....i loved the show "because" they were stranded alone and separated from Starfleet

Didn't ruin it for me but i could have done without it

According to the season's special features, Robert Picardo enjoyed working with Andy Dick, but worried article headlines would say something along the lines of "Picardo likes Dick".

Yes but all it would take is one planet that wasn't in the shadow of the galactic core to make contact, or what about a Klingon world in the BQ they could have relayed the message.

Want to cut them off, have the long range subspace communication array obliterated and have it use an exotic material that can't be replicated we know such materials exist i.e. Latinum.
