Merlin?

The implication in the original TV story is that Merlin is the mainstream Doctor in a future incarnation, who has travelled sideways in time to another dimension, as was possible before the Time War. Read the novelisation.

No one said what you say is utter crap. If you're unable to take criticisms of your posts without furthering any opinion but continuing to point out random points then what's the point of posting a topic in the first place? It just gets tiresome having a discussion without coming to an conclusion or consensus viewpoint. Posters respond to your questions and you choose to bring up something else when you don't agree with what was said or continue hammering the point.

The Merlin Doctor left a note to his younger self in Arthur's tomb telling him that Morgaine had just gotten hold of a nuclear missile, so Merlin had already experienced those events. Pretty definitive proof, IMO, and I do believe it was the writers' intention. It's rather like how in his Camelot books, T.H. White has Merlin living backwards in time, so he remembers the future but isn't so clear on the past.

I can't believe we're talking about an alternate Doctor in an alternate universe told in an non-canon medium!!!

Look at who the OP is, and then you will believe!

Yeah, because everything I say is complete and utter crap, right? Rub it in, why don't you?

Never said crap. I think your posts are usually quite well thought out. I'm very impressed by your knowledge and attention to the smaller details. Even if they can sometimes be misguided or wrong.

The problem is (and admittedly this is my problem) I am also quite amused/confused/worried for your mental health by that same attention to detail. You seem to obsess over minor continuity details in a TV show that is the poster child for ignoring continuity. Face it, Dr Who continuity makes the entire Star Trek franchise look like all 45 years was planned out in every detail from the beginning.

It's not so much that you point out the continuity issues, but that you come across as actually being distressed by them. That kind of obsession worries me.

Maybe I am reading you wrong, translating actual thoughts and feelings to plain text on a message board leaves a lot of room for misinterpretation. I know that I am not the only member on this board to poke fun at you, or question your reasoning. If I have read you wrong, and you are just talking about the minutia for shits and giggles then I apologize.

^i don't know that i worry about EJA's mental health, but i do feel that he takes Who far too seriously and worries about continuity far more than any sane fan does.

Here is the Doctor Who Wiki's entry on Merlin. Although EJA is probably familiar with what they cover.

There was also an indirect reference to Wizard's in "fairy tales" in "The Pandorica Opens" made by River who might have been making a reference to "Merlin" as she says something like "In my experience, all the wizards in those stories usually turn out to be him."

I too will say that EJA's knowledge of minutia continuity is impressive. As I said before though my problem with his constant posts is that they never seem to go anywhere and if you don't agree with his view despite the fact that he asked for your opinion in the first place then he'll bring up another point that supports his and ignore what you say.
