Merlin series 3

^Not sure it's like that. I think it's more Uther went in to the fight expecting to be able to win, but during the fight he knew he was outclassed by Arthur, who then toned himself down in order to let his dad win.

Perhaps, but he did say he'd been taking careful note of Arthur's prowess with a sword since he was a child.

He also said he was over confident and undefeated. Uther is hardly a humble man, his pride would make him believe he was better until proven wrong.

I couldn't take Gilli seriously because every time I saw him I kept thinking about Dudley Dursley...

Absolutely fantastic! A trifle rushed but brilliant all the same; loved that Gwaine was the slaver's champion, and loved Merlin getting pissed off with both of them!

Oh and Emilia was fantastic here, glad she finally got rid of that loser Cedrid!

One annoyance though; the cup of life? FFS I'm no christian but we all know what the holy grail is, would it really offend people to call it like it is?

Is it though? I mean isn't the holy grail what Arthur and the knights go on a quest for? Besides, it's an artefact of the old religion, so it's not necessarily the same thing even in that context.

I think it's more offensive to say that the holy grail wasn't unique or special and that there were lots of magic cups out there that could bring the dead back to life.

^Why? There's lots of different myths with similar things in. So the holy grail might already not be unique. Wiki says there's probably a link to a Celtic myth, although that's a cauldron not a cup, but still means it's not a unique artifact.

Why?

You can't talk reason to zealots, if you could, then they wouldn't be zealots, not that all Christians are zealots, just the zealous ones, and the more zealous the more humourless and reasonless, but it's wisest not to talk with any clarity and honesty about the nature of the universe to anyone who might even be a the subtlest religious tourist.

Their little fairy tale is being muddied, perhaps stolen. So either they are getting behind their fairy tale in Merlin or they're being tricked into twotiming their faith with made up shit because it's indistinguishable from what they think is real.

I'm talking about the people who tried to outlaw Dungeons and Dragons.

Remember them?

It took me years to understand that the covenant was Charleton Hestons notepad, but I was old enough by three to say "Hey! That's a from a Monty Python Movie!"

So because of four we have to understand that God created other planets and hasn't told us about it or that the ark and the holy grail are both just alien technology.

Why the fuck is Merlin pussy footing about?

I just googled "Cup of Life" and the first page was nothing but pages dedicated to the lyrics of a Ricky Martin Song.

I did the same google search. Though to be honest there seems to be very little to do with Christianity in the show anyway so I have no problem with it not being the Holy Grail given that there's no reference to anything else Christian in the show.

Well it's 600 something AD?

Later?

The Romans (Byzantiums) have been Christians for some time rolling in and out of Briton, the jews have been around for two millennia and Mohammed (born in 570ish AD) is probably just getting his shit together or maybe even learning to walk or teeth.

Big things are happening.

Hostorically it's a powderkeg which a primarily childrens show is smart to avoid cause it's horribly unwanted attention, but just like Buffy never said that Jesus was a vampire (came back from the dead after 3 days? C'MON!!!) no ones even close to assuming that any coming miracles of the as yet undiscovered faith are just old fashioned magic.

Anthony Head has to fuck off.

He can come back from the dead later next season but Arthur can never rise to power and Morgana can never solidify her powerbase of EVIL until she kills her father because that idjit will forgive her any transgression and the rest seem to just forget.

Gwen should have poisoned her at the conclusion of every episode after the last 5 weeks.

Who else was screaming "GET YOUR FUCKING STAFF!!!" when Merlin was packing.

It's basically a rocket launcher with neverending missiles.

He could destroy armies with that thing.

Don't these idiots know how you handle immortals?

Hack and separate or bind or trap.

An immortal can't climb out of a well any better than a mortal and forty immortals down a well like a barrel of monkeys even less so.

If they can still fight when you stab them see if they can still fight when you take out their eyes.

Ash from Evil Dead has to save the day.

i was wondering about why he didn't take the staff.

too conspicuous, i guess.

i wanna know what the 'Old Religion' was and for that matter, what the New one is.

meh, it's a land of myth and a time of magic... historical accuracy's not a huge thing...

I don't think there is a new religion which is a serious power vacuum.

Then of course there's births, deaths and marriages to consider.

^Don't really know for sure. It's been renewed and will be shown in 2012 but don't know if that's Spring 2012, in which case we'll be waiting just over a year for it.
