Mere Anarchy: The Darkness Drops Again was great!

I finished reading this ebook yesterday on the flight from Winnipeg to Ottawa. While I've really enjoyed past books in this series, this one was my favourite so far for a number of reasons. As Christopher says on his annotations site, each story has been relatively different in style and his was more of an "epic tale". I was quite surprised when Raya and the rest of the Payav government were overthrown and banished off of the planet and also by the large passage of time between the beginning and end of the story.

I felt the interaction between Kirk & Raya in this story was also a very positive element in how Raya came to really resent Kirk and his not intervening in the government take over. I felt this made for an excellent moral dilemma in the great traditions of Star Trek.

One of the only elements I found a bit cliche in this story was the fanatical religious individuals who sometimes showed much greater concern for their own ambitions than in the adherence to their beliefs themselves. We saw this plenty of times in DS9 as well as occasionally in the other series. The point is certainly still well taken, however, since these people do still exist in today's world and it is a valuable lesson that blind faith alone can be a very dangerous thing.

Anyway, well done and I'll look forward to the next part of the story.

Glad you're enjoying the miniseries! I'm very proud of how well Mere Anarchy turned out, and glad to see the appreciation. :)

Thank you!

I wasn't really commenting on religion there, but on closed-minded extremism of any stripe, and on leaders who ignore real crises, environmental and otherwise, that don't fit into their ideological and political agendas. Sadly, leaders like that are a cliche only because they're all too commonplace.

I do agree that the Mere Anarchy series is very good. And I am pleased that it has not been rushed off for a pbook reprint. I do enjoy reading ebooks with my PRS-505 (Sony). I need to get my tush in gear and read the SCE series. I'm only up to #40. But having my 505 lets me take my SCE books and soon the Slings and Arrows series away from the computer and go with me where I want. I'd love to see more ebook only series.
