Mental Wellness Support Group

I got another job interview tomorrow, at a shoe store this time. If I get turned down after this interview, I might go back to meeting with the guy that had been helping me before or possibly look into vocational rehabilitation.
I sometimes miss selling shoes.

Good luck, JD.

Thanks. I have to admit, I'm starting to get a little frustrated that even now that I'm really trying harder to get a job, I still can't. I really thought once I started really putting in more applications and getting interviews I'd get a job right away.

I can imagine that is very, very frustrating. I recall being frustrated I couldn't get a job in the field I wanted at the time, and kind of resenting my retail ties.

But, what I did learn is how to really present myself. I went in to interviews with the attitude of "I'm willing to learn." I started out with a sporting goods retailer at 18 and said it plainly when the manager said "30% of our business is shoes. You ok with that?" and I said, "I don't know anything about shoes but I will learn." Had that job for over ten years, and eventually ran the department.

I am very hopeful for you today.

I think it went well, the lady I did the interview with didn't blow me off right away like at the grocery store interview, and she seemed pretty happy with the answers I gave.
I am a little nervous because she said the number one rule is you can't be shy, and that you have to talk to the customers and help them. I think that'll probably be the number one challenge for me, but I think I can push through the nerves and anxiety and do it.

If you can survive the multitude of interviews you have done and keep going back for other opportunities I know you can push through it. The key to overcoming anxiety is to be in situations that you have to face it.

I have trauma dreams and use lucid dreaming techniques. It doesn't reduce the number of dreams but it can reduce their intensity. It works best on repetitve dreams as firstly, it's easier to tell you are dreaming and secondly, you know what's coming so can avoid or abate it.

When I asked whether there was anything that I could do to reduce my trauma dreaming, I was told to avoid stress and make sure that I got enough sleep. That sounded very much like "if you want to avoid trauma dreams, don't have trauma dreams" and was unhelpful for me. Perhaps it might be useful to other people.

I didn't get the shoe store job I interviewed for a couple weeks ago, and then yesterday I set up a phone interview for department store job and then got an email today saying they filled the position and my interview was cancelled. Really starting feel like I'm cursed or there is something wrong with me. I really didn't think I would be this hard to get a job once I really started trying harder.

Missed out on another job today. I did the application yesterday and got an email today to go do an online screening process, but then at the end of the questions it told me all of the positions were filled.:scream::mad::censored:

I always recommend circling back to places that you have tried in the past. Especially that one with the online screener. I would be curious to call and see or at least follow up email and thank them for sending the screener and to consider you in the future.
