Mental Wellness Support Group

Edit : I realized how unwelcoming and harsh my post sounded...I regret posting that :(
I wasn't thinking straight, and I hope all members involved can forgive my moody rant x(

Just realized this thread is here. Thanks for putting this together, @TauCygna.

Not sure if I want to share yet, but there’s definitely comfort in knowing there’s a resource for this kind of thing.

It’s hard to talk to friends and family (everyone worries), and I’ve struggled to find a doctor I like/trust. It’s odd, but for me the easiest way to open up is through talking to a stranger (or someone you don’t know in person) because there’s no judgement.

Anyways, hi :)

Excuse me, but could you please stop it with the religious preaching ? This topic is supposed to be about mental health, brain wiring and biological neurologic conditions. This is not a place to debate wether or not Jesus has anything to do with our sufferings. People with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety...suffer from chemical brain dysfunctions. It has nothing to do with Jesus.
Thank you for your comprehension.
I understand this is your thread, but they just made one post talking about their beliefs along with music and other subjects, so it's hardly as if they've derailed the thread with proselytizing.

I would say one's beliefs can tie into their mental health in both beneficial and negative ways quite strongly, so it can be topical to the thread as well, if done in moderation and not taking over the discussion.

In the future, if you notify on something, why not wait for the mods to handle it instead of taking things into your own hands? This wasn't a particularly welcoming message to a new participant in the thread.

That's the power of depression, isn't it? It revisits when it feels like it. I see it in someone I love and there is not much he or I can do but ride it out. The only comfort you can give yourself is that if you have come out of it before then you can do it again.

I hesitate to share this but not the person I was referring above, but a friend who was severely depressed, we lost to it a few years back. He had been on some pretty serious meds and each time they too became part of the cycle. He would have hope and then that would go. I think about him often and despair that no one could help him but would give anything to try again if I could. He was a brilliant man and I never told him that, though we would marvel at what he was capable of.

@TauCygna I love your avatars. The eyes :)

I love your avatars. The eyes :)
Thank you. I love eyes too, they're beautiful.
Reminds me of that beautiful quote by Paulo Coelho : “The eyes are the mirror of the soul and reflect everything that seems to be hidden; and like a mirror, they also reflect the person looking into them.”

Shouldn't all able-souled people start to think about those who aren't that well off, emotionally?
I mean, there are all sorts of aids and gadgets that help you overcome physically inabilities. With mental or emotional problems they usually just fill you up with pills but nothing is done as far as prevention or even public information are concerned.
With depression they've at least started a halfhearted awareness campaign but that's only a drop on the hot stone. Bullying, mobbing and emotional blackmail ought to be as unthinkable to people as are rape and murder. And that is where every single one of us can start to get things moving. If we set a perfect example, our children and grandchildren, our friends and their friends will gradually pick up on our ideas and multiply the effect. If people treated each other decently, there'd only be the physical causes for emotional illnesses left to tackle.
All we have to do is go out there and talk as openly and frankly about our problems as we do here, and make it clear to the last idiot that bullying and ignorance are no socially acceptable behaviour whereas if you integrate "mentally ill" or "disturbed" people like us the society actually profits from our abilities, insights and different perspectives.
