Another great episode, even though it has a technobabble solution.

I think Beltran, Wang, Phillips, and McNeill put in great performances in the first three quarters of this episode. As each has their flashback, even the normally wooden Beltran gives a great performance. Wang as the ensign who has never been in a battle like this, let alone killed everybody, shines in the briefing room scene.

Another shining moment is Kate Mulgrew in her flashback. Her anger seemed more like real anger than acted anger we've seen so much of.

Definitely one of my favorites! Thoughts and comments welcome!

I liked it alright until Janeway decided to repair it.

That seemed like one of her more bizarre decisions to me. How do they even know it's true? Or just propaganda? Or whatever?

Memorial was a good episode. I wouldn't call it great but I enjoyed it well enough.

I thought the memorial reveal was a striking visual. The idea was certainly creative in how it effectively put a neat sci-fi spin on the memorial. Even Chakotay, Kim, Paris and Neelix managed to have a few nice scenes. A nice script by Robin Burger and a good story from once again one of my two favorite Trek writers--Brannon Braga.

That seemed like one of her more bizarre decisions to me.

I actually thought it was the best decision she could have made under the circumstances. She leaves the memorial intact thereby honoring its builders intentions but by placing a warning buoy in orbit she allowed those that choose not to experience the memories to be able to.

I really enjoyed this episode. However, it's not my favorite. The guys did put on a great performance in the briefing room scene..it left me shell shocked.
I did think that Janeway made the right decision when putting up the beacon to warn others about the Memorial. I would have done the same thing because even though those memories were not actually theirs, it did leave some scars on them emotionally.

I love this episode, and consider it a favourite. Very powerful, and great acting by all the regulars throughout. My sister and I, immediately after viewing it for the first time (I was about 14, my sister 13), discussed Janeway's decision to restore the memorial. We both agreed she made the right choice.

One thing I must say irritated me about the episode, however, was its depiction of the slaughtered colonists. Particularly when Harry (or the soldier he was "cast as") shoots the two in the cave: one elderly male, one female. Sigh. Not that I expected it from American TV, but it would be nice to have seen some young males treated like senstitive victims, seeing as young males are overwhelmingly the most likely to be slaughtered or pre-empitvely murdered in paranoia. I know it may seem odd for me to make a fuss of it here and in this manner, but this is an issue very dear to me and it prevented me enjoying this wonderful episode to the degree I should have.
