Melora

Infern0

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Did anyone else think they missed a trick by not adding this character to the regular cast?

I really liked her, she had a lot of character development in just one episode but there was still tons more about her to be explored.

I liked the fact that she wasnt typical starfleet "perfect" and then she left at the end of the episode never to be seen again.

real waste of a good character imo

She was supposed to be science officer, but then they decided it would be too expencive, and we got Jadzia.

That's what I read somewhere.

If you read books, she's on Riker's Titan now.

From my observations around here that episode seems to be quite unpopular. I loved it though.

I was counting on her being a regular character, or at least recurring. I was very disappointed when that didn't happen.

I don't know why it would be unpopular?

but each to their own I guess.

Im certainly going to read the Titan books now.

I didn't quite care for her actually, I found her quite rude, for one thing which would've been exhausting on a regular basis.

Yeah but that was obviously a defence mechanism.

Many people in real life are like that too, but if you put the effort in to get past that they turn out to be great people.

We got Jadzia? What do you mean by that? Jadzia was a main character from the start, what does Melora have to do with it?

I didn't have a problem with the chip on her shoulder, though it wasn't the most original of character concepts.

The episode has some issues, but that's not necessarily because of the character.

It would have been nice to see her show up again/become recurring, but I don't think I would have cared to see her as a primary character.

When they first started kicking ideas around for characters one of them was Melora. When they figured it was too expensive to do a character like that they dropped that idea and came up with another character to fill the role of the science officer.

But it was a character concept, not a character of Melora as we know her with the same actress playing her. For all we know, she might have even still ended up being played by Terry Farrell, so all the Farrell haters here wouldn't have been any happier.

But the actor who is cast affects the way the character is portrayed, especially when the writers don't have a clear idea at the start what they want the character to be. The writers admit that they changed Jadzia's portrayal during season 2.

If Melora would be science officer of DS9 (original idea), then there would be no joined Trill lady as science officer. Melora was supposed to be a regular, not a one-time appearance character.

I never got that impression, she was clearly a capable person who pushed herself and was intellegent. But she was also so rude.

I like Jadzia a lot, but she reminds me a lot of me... but I don't think I'm dumb enough to run off with some guy I just met to another dimension when I have something as priceless as a Trill in me... other than that tho...

I'd forgot all about Melora. Oddly enough for me the most memorable moment of that episode was Jadzia comparing Melora to the little mermaid. Why is she always referencing human stories?

I would never have wanted to replace Jadzia though, even if she was sometimes impulsive enough to want to go to another dimension with a man she only just met.

My only real issue with this epsidoe was the way Bashir reacted to being in a zero-g environment. Surely at somepoint in their four years at Starfleet Academy the cadets (even the genius doctors) get at least some sort of basic training on how to handle themselves in zero-g. Bashir acts like this is the first time he's ever experienced it.

I hated this episode...it was boring as hell. The actress who played Melora was also underwhelming. I also dislike the use of the character in the Titan novels.
