Mega-Poll #2 : Your Favorite Actor

My Favorite Doctor ACTOR is...

  • Total voters
    45
Christopher Eccleston.

28 Days Later, Doctor Who, Heroes...come on! I even have a Claude action figure.

I think favorite actor is going to be different from favourite Doctor ;)

Peter Davison for so many reasons over the years...

Eccleston slightly over Smith due to the fact that I would understand Eccleston better. With Smith I feel like I have to watch the show with Subtitles just to get "everything"

Definetely Tennant for me. Very early in his run, after I had gotten over the "huh, this is weird" feeling due to a new Doctor I realised I thought he's a brilliant actor. This seems to be a minority opinion now in this forum but I always found his intense, expressive acting style fitting and great to watch. And I usually prefer understated acting. Anyway, his work on the show made me check out anything he was in I could get a hold of. I even watched all the Harry Potter movies because he has a few scenes in the fourth one. And he's just great in Hamlet.

I also like to see Eccleston in other things. Matt Smith hasn't really wowed me, yet. And it's probably not that easy to get to watch other stuff Hartnell and Troughton were in, though in the case of Troughton it would probably be very interesting because he looks so different from his Doctor persona. That about covers all the Doctors I know.

Eccleston forever and always. God, I'll never get over his leaving the show.

Eccleston.

Can't quite point my finger on why. He just is.

I liked his range. Sometimes he was as quirky as Smith or Tennant, but he also was quite serious at times as well, especially in "Dalek." I still don't think Tennant or Smith (Both brought on in a more comedic role) has matched it so far. I actually do hope we get a serious Smith as Doctor episode. Maybe having to deal with a past loss or something tragic. Would be interesting to see how he handles it.

Tennnt's a very good actor, when he reigns it in, or else when the director reigns him in. Bit too inconsistant at times though. Eccleston is a very good actor, he's have probably been my pick after Davison.

This this this....

And it's sad, really, because so many of his lines are damn funny.

When I started watching Who I had trouble understanding everything, in fact I occasionally missed important bits but eventually, I got used to the fast delivery and the myriads of British accents. I actually understand Matt Smith quite well.

Pertwee, on the basis of his major role in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. If we're talking the entire body of acting work, not just Who, of course.

Hmm this poll made me realise how little I've seen these actors outside Who - for example I've only ever seen DT in Hamlet, where to be fair he was fantastic.

So not Pertwee, McCoy or (Colin) Baker - the weakest actors to play the Doctor though they all put in decent performances in the show.

Not Tom, or Davison - all their performances seem to be a variation on a theme in a way.

It's too early to decide on Smith (in or out of Who), Hartnell & McGann are both very good but not for me.

Ecclestone has probably the most varied body of work but he's never quite convinced me - feels like he's trying too hard most of the time. The last thing I saw him in was A Dolls House on stage where he was dreadful and Gillian Anderson acted him off the stage.

I think for me the best is Troughton - loved him in everything I've seen him in.

So far the only time I've had trouble understanding Smith was in "A Christmas Carol" when he was talking while fiddling with the controls on the cloud machine - all the beeps and boops in the background made it really hard to tell what exactly he was saying...something about hats, I think. But otherwise I really don't see why so many other Americans have difficulties with the accent & speed.

Anyway, Matt's my favorite. Not based on body of work, but based on his behind the scenes randomness.

Colin Baker.
Two roles in Doctor Who... and you would NEVER believe they were the same person.

Of course he's the best actor.

;)
