Medical Question Re: Bioelectric Fields (I'm not a crackpot. I think.)

Re: Medical Question Re: Bioelectric Fields (I'm not a crackpot. I thi

I have freakishly low electrical resistance.

High levels of blood electrolytes? High sodium diet? Low fat content in your skin? Moist skin? I'm only guessing. I don't know what causes it. But these seem most obvious. :)

Do you have a multimeter to test your resistance with? :p
No idea, probably not low fat since I'm pretty big, not very moist skin. We did test this once in HS and the teacher was quite surprised at my low resistance and said it was the lowest he'd seen.

I am one of those folks who can't wear watches. :( The horrible thing is I love time pieces. I would have 400 if I could wear them. I can wear a wind-up but they are very difficult to find these days.

I also learned several years ago that I can't sit with a laptop in my lap. It won't stay charged. I can use one only if I keep it separated from my body with something. Before my laptop died in May, I used an old inch thick wood cutting board to sit it on.

As for a cellphone, I have to change out the battery every ten months or so and I can not keep it in my pocket. I also have the same trouble with my camera. I can't hang it around my neck if I want the power pack to last more than an hour. (If I keep it in its bag the power pack will last for days!)

I also disrupt radio signals. If I stand close to a tv that uses an antenna, the channels all go fuzzy. I also have the worst time getting decent cell reception. There are times I can sit the phone down and have a full signal but just as soon as I pick the phone up the signal drops to nothing.

And I don't know if this is connected or not but I can't wear anything with copper in it. It always turns green in a matter of hours. I have even had copper rivets on jeans turn on me if the are touching my skin. Certain gold jewelry turns my skin black. Sterling silver is really the only thing that doesn't do anything.

Mosquitoes do not like me. I can't remember the last time I was bitten by one.

Talking about antennas -

When I was a girl of about 12 our TV started to play up. No matter how she fiddled with it my Mum couldn't get a good reception. As it was a long weekend it would be a few days before my mother could get a TV repairman in.

Then it was accidently discovered that if I sat on the floor in a certain spot the TV would get perfect reception. For some strange reason it didn't work if one of my siblings sat in this spot, I was the only one it worked for.

For the rest of the long weekend my mother made me sit in this spot if there was something she really wanted to see. I remember that I had to sit through "The Singing Nun" starring Debbie Reynolds. If I moved too much the picture would jump so my mother kept telling me to keep still.

How about the self wound ones?

They still use a battery to store the energy produced by your movements. :(

It's in my nature to be open minded on stuff like this, but realistic at the same time. Strange looking things can often have down to earth explanations, it's just that we can look in the wrong direction for answers sometimes.

For portable devices, it could be something like water vapour from your skin that is condensing in electronic devices, and you might produce much more than most people. A higher thermal radiation from your body might also reduce battery life.
I'm on the same boat. Although every time someone mentions the term "biofield" my skin crawls, the human body definitively has electromagnetic properties. So it's not out of line thinking that some people may interact differently (and sometimes quite strongly) with electromagnetic fields. Jadzia suggested some very good mundane explanations: sweat, body heat, skin conditions, etc. People should check them before thinking about auras and stuff.

In many stories, I think that observer's bias might play a part: you will not remember the thousands times your clock worked fine, but the one time it failed spectacularly when you needed it. That's the reason behind most "impossible coincidences" stories, for example.

And beside, let's be honest, everybody likes to believe there is something special about him. So it may tint some recollections. However, at least some stories are bound to be honest, so there is probably something to them.
