McCoy's Ring

Maybe it was in the last movie, but I noticed in this new movie that McCoy is wearing his pinky ring again. While it doesn't look exactly like Kelley's ring, it's a nice touch.

If they are staying true to the original time line, then it can't be an academy ring - it's a gold band with a blue stone (a ring that De Kelley's uncle won in a poker game in WWI and then gave to De's mother). The ring in "Into Darkness," however, looked much more substantial....

Either way, it's a very sweet gesture on the part of Urban and/or J.J.

All SF Academy graduates wear a class ring on their ring finger. Urban's McCoy wears the pinky ring as an homage to De Kelley. Considering Urban's performance, I'd say Kelley is giving his blessing.
