Happy June, everyone! I was pleased by the excellent turnout for my strange and frightening challenge. ;) We also got the full spectrum from drama to comedy to farce, and romance and action too.

Since we have seven entries, I'm going to allow two votes each. Voting will end Saturday, June 5 at midnight to allow time for a runoff vote if needed.

The entries were...

Kaziarl - Face to Face

The Lone Redshirt - NX-01 Tells All

Mistral - Counseling Session

FleetCaptainFrost - On the Edge of Earth and Sky

Nerys Ghemor - The Sisterhood

Valeris - Final Moments

Brice Kellin - Whipper Snappers

This was a tough one! I enjoyed all the entries - Everyone did a great job interpreting the challenge theme.

In the end, I voted for Mistral's "Counseling Session." I enjoyed the imagery and the idea of a Starship pining for her Captain.

Duh! Just realized I should have voted for two. Unfortunately, I can't go back since I already submitted my vote. :(

:guffaw:Did the same thing. Only voted for Kaziarl-and you'd have gotten my second. D'OH!

It was tough. But I went with TLR and Nerys' stories.

TLR had probably the funniest entry by far. Sounded just like something I'd expect from the gossip section of a magazine.

Nerys, as usual had a well written piece. It was compelling, easy to read, and I could hear the voices of the two ships.

Mistral, thanks for the vote. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Oh, and I'm sure if you two ask Mari really REALLY nicely and get her lots of chocolate, she'll include your second vote in the final tally.

Voted for TheLoneRedshirt and Nerys, both supremely awesome entries amongst some awesome entries. :techman::cool:

Yes. Chocolate. :bolian:

Assuming my brain works properly on Saturday, I have no problem with including "oral" votes. ::mutters::Always happens to me...

Actually, calling 2 votes for 7 entries is kind of borderline-and those of us who can't see the line easily enough sometimes miss it. As well as anniversaries, jury duty and license renewals. *shrugs* It's a mixed bag around here, at best.

Lots of good entries...I'm gonna have to wait until I get on break today so I can actually reread them before I vote!

OK...I'm going to vote for one funny piece, one serious one. And both of my picks, in this case, seem to be quite undercredited.

"Whipper Snappers" was such an amazing fit to the tone of both episodes it was based on--you could almost hear that comical TOS music in the background. I'm not even a big TOS fan, but I could see what kind of work went into it. And the trash talk was just priceless!

The other piece I choose is "On the Edge of Earth and Sky." Yes, it is short. And I think maybe it's not getting as much credit as it should because it's Trek XI. But if you ever read the novelized versions of Trek XI, this really fits with the notion of destiny and self-repairing timelines. This version of the Enterprise is more attuned to those things, I think, than the people are, that even seeing this warped AU version of Kirk, she still recognizes the destiny. (Well, Pike saw it too.)
