May 2nd "Simpsons" episode terrorism plot in poor taste

about 24 hours ago, they found an abandoned van with an improvised incendiary bomb inside it a matter of blocks from where I live in NYC

Now, tonight's Simpsons episode has a main plot where Homer accidentally leaves a bag containing Plutonium at a train station; a bomb squad blows it up, which only leads to a bigger explosion.

The whole point it got labeled a terrorist attack even though it really wasn't; Homer just left a bag at a train station.

Was it really wise to air this *24 hours* after a street vendor noticing a "suspiciously abandoned vehicle" managed to stop a car bomb from going off in Time Square?

I don't understand this line of thinking at all. The episode doesn't encourage or support terrorism, it can't possibly be confused for anything real, and since no one was hurt by this amateurish bombing attempt I think people are perfectly capable of handling it and any cartoon that might remind them of it for some bizarre reason (even though the story is still in the news anyway). You need to give people a little more credit and not be so overly sensitive.

A: Fox is the big anti-terrorism network, they obviously don't have a problem with it.

B: What would your avatar think?

C: Should Comedey Central have not aired that episode with Muhamud? I know it was censored, but they did air it

D: The episode was hilarous and the point was to illistrate how Terror sensitive we are. I haven't heard about this incident and not to belittle it, but the first ammendment is there for a reason.

E: No Harm, No Foul

I can appreciate that it is close to home for you, but it's a TV show.

It wasn't a very good episode anyway, certainly not by the standards of the current season.

And it's not like anyone was hurt in the Times Square incident. Had the event turned out more tragically, it's likely the episode would've been delayed, but thankfully it didn't.

We could be having this conversation if someone had actually died in New York last night.

But the way that thing went down I'd say that guy was more "Bumbling Homer Simpson" and less "Successful Terrorist."

So I don't see the problem.

The only thing I find funny is that Fox showed it when they haven't shown past episodes of Bones and Futurama for stupider reasons.

But there is terror in this world and on The Simpsons, that's life.. and sometimes death.

And you'll find that this epsidoe was probably scheduled weeks ago but it also makes a point about the the reaction of people to terrorists attacks.

You know, God forbid, even if the thing in New York blew up and killed many people, I still think it's okay to air the episode.

It's a friggin' cartoon that's had the episode in the can for God knows how long? It's not like they'd be exploiting the tragic event. And as for reminding the oh so sensitive public...wouldn't the news coverage of the actual event be doing that!?!

I would think the events of the following Family Guy episode were far more traumatizing to viewers. :)

People still watch the Simpsons? :p I kid...I kid...

I'm just surprised that the show actually managed to do something to cause a controversy, hopefully you can get one started through twitter and other online sources. I think the publicity would be good.

What the...? Now the Simpsons have an episode relevant to today's news???

This is the Mirror TrekBBS...

Bones had an episode in which a college student was murdered, one college student. That episode never made it to air and had to be redone to be shown the next year because of the VA Tech mass shooting. Fox wouldn't show the second Futurama Evil Robot Santa episode because they thought it would piss off Christians, so they waited awhile and instead showed in on Easter Sunday.

So never underestimate Fox's stupidity.

It's a damn cartoon. If something like this could upset somebody then they should probably stick to activities less dangerous than watching fucking TV.
