May 21, 2011 rapidly approaching, doomsday - ready?

Shouldn't this just be yet another reason to believe what you want to and ignore true bible bashers; who believe we're doomed and that the louder they preach, the more souls they reach, isn't this one of those?

Couldn't such a scare tatic to inspire faith be words of war against my own belief, if I put down Common Sense under Faith on the next Sensors and get enough people to do so too, then I can have my own Common Sense belief actually recognised which, to an extent, does get offended when P'ed Off against wacky Christians.

You mock free will KJ, but the point is you have it. No one is forcing you to make choices in believing or not believing, your life truly is in your hands.
The Rapture is a theological heresy created by a snake oil salesman at the end of the 19th Century.

If you want to understand salvation, try reading Luther's catechisms.

O' no I don't mock free will that is given to us at birth, not by some ghost in the sky.

No one really has free will all the time. can I go to college without paying for it(no), can I just have a little health insurance(I don't have any right now), no. Can I ask to just be simply left alone in school and not be beat up, no. frankly, free will battles real life all the time and rarely wins.

I'm talking about free will of where your soul goes, you hold that in your hands and can determine that right here and right now.

Well, yes and no. It might be "free will", but if so, it's one where you're not given all the information needed to make the choice.

Suppose you're defusing a new type of bomb, one you've never seen before and which no one has any experience handling. It's so dangerous, that if it explodes, it will take out every living creature on earth. You've managed to open the access panel and are looking at 20 wires. One of them, if clipped, will stop the countdown on the timer. The other 19 will cause the bomb to explode. You have, to assist you, 20 different manuals, all pointing to a different wire that needs to be cut to deactivate the bomb.

We know this much: If you continue to wait, without cutting, everyone around you, including yourself, will die because the timer will run out. If you choose one wire, you won't know if you're right until after it's cut. Once it's cut, that's it. No more chances.

Here's the worst part: You don't know when the timer will reach zero, because the timer doesn't show you how much time is left. It just reads as blank, so you either have seconds, or you may have years, but one way or another, it will detonate, and once it does, everything is gone.

That is the choice you have been given.

that's easy, pull the power source for the timer.

You realize, of course, that by pulling the power source for the timer, you have now shut off all current, right? You have effectively clipped all 20 wires. 1 right one, and 19 wrong ones.

I survived the rapture!!

Like the cowards that these people are Minister Harold Camping was MIA on Sunday when the rapture failed to occur and after his 'ministry,' has been enriched tens of millions of $$.

Funny personal story. I was in a movie theater on Saturday night waiting for Pirates of the Caribbean to start and in an adjoining theater you could hear loud blasts from a film in progress.

After a boom, one of the patrons said rather loudly, 'maybe that's the rapture happening in the other theater?' The whole audience burst into laughter.

Personally I don't know whether to feel sorry or mock the people who believed this absurdity especially since biblical canon is so specific that no man will know the date of the end of days - there has to be however many depressed people who invested their time, effort and money into this ridiculousness. You have to wonder what they're thinking now?

USA Today

The religious broadcaster who predicted the world would end Saturday — and convinced hundreds he was right — was nowhere to be seen publicly Sunday after his prediction didn't come true.Minister Harold Camping, 89, founder of the Family Radio network, said the Bible and numeric analysis revealed that the Earth would be destroyed Saturday at 5:59 p.m. through a series of earthquakes. He said 200,000 believers would be sent to heaven in the Rapture.
On Sunday, Camping's radio headquarters in Oakland was closed and nobody answered the door at his home a few miles away. The company's website wasn't responding. It wasn't clear when the Christian network would return to the airwaves, where it is broadcast on 66 U.S. stations and in other countries.

I won't mock, but I don't offer any sympathy. One believer interviewed by Huffington Post said he went in with both eyes open, with no one holding a gun to his head. And in my opinion that's the case with all of the adults involved, anyway.

I do feel sorry for kids who no longer have funds for education because their parents gave them all away, or whose parents quit their jobs and now have to find work again in a tough economy. I hope against hope that the rumors of a Doomday-related murder-suicide I heard about (but have found no media coverage of so far) prove to be bogus. I hope no one decides to off themselves or someone else because it didn't happen, either.

Maybe this will make people smarten up a bit and start thinking for themselves. And I don't mean drop religion or anything - just do your research before you jump to conclusions.

Harold Camping the Minister himself has a BS degree from Berkley in engineering.

What this also proves to me is that education and common sense don't necessarily go together.

But yes, I agree - I feel pity for the children who were innocent victims of their parents stupidity.

'Cept the parts about killing Jews. Just skip over that.

So a useless power, got ya. Yes I mock this kind of free will openly . However, to be fair. You should hold onto your faith as much as I don't hold on to mine. If this free will gives you hope, have fun with it.

What I want to know is how you can console Camping's followers:

"Cheer up! It's not the end of the world." ??

For his part, Luther did turn his back on his earlier anti-Semitic statements, in fact in his final sermon he said this:

"We want to treat them with Christian love and to pray for them, so that they might become converted and would receive the Lord" (Weimar edition, Vol. 51, p. 195).

Lets not group all Christians with these nutcases. As was pointed out before, the Bible says no man knows the time of Jesus' return. This fruit loop wanted attention and had no factual knowledge of the Word. And also, lets not dismiss God because of His followers either.

So many things I could say that would just prove this post mostly useless, but since your new I won't.
