News Matthew Perry, dead at 54

The Friends icon was found dead in his jacuzzi at age 54 of an apparent drowning. First responders found him in the jacuzzi after responding to a call about an apparent cardiac arrest. In case you're wondering, and I'll admit that it crossed my mind, there were no drugs found at the scene.

I'll be the first to admit I'm not much of a fan of 'Friends' but his work on the movie 'The Whole Nine Yards' is some of the funniest onscreen. R.I.P.

Variety reports on celebrity reactions and tributes to Perry's passing, but notably none of his Friends co-stars have chimed in yet. I imagine they're as devastated as family would be.

This is terrible news. He was easily my favorite part of Friends and my favorite beyond the show. I loved his guest appearances on The West Wing as well as his roles in Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and The Whole Nine Yards films, among many others.

Like others have said, 54 is far too young, especially since it seemed like he finally managed to overcome his demons. I was really moved by his conversation with Stephen Colbert earlier this year when he was on the show to talk about his book that discussed those demons.

How very sad. I don't mind telling you that my heart is a little bit broken. He seemed to have finally overcome his demons but was denied the years of peace and self- fulfillment he should have had ahead of him.

My mom got really sick in 2022 and was in the hospital and then in rehab for awhile. We had watched Friends and liked it when it was on NBC. With all that waiting in the hospital, Friends was one of the few palatable choices for daytime tv. TBS was showing it on weekdays all day. At first I got a little tired of in being on all the time but it brought my mom comfort and eventually me too.
My mom is doing better now but still has trouble getting around so up until a few weeks ago, she was still watching and enjoying Friends. TBS took it off most of the day for something else so I ordered the dvds and they just arrived today.
I hope she gets many more years of enjoyment from the show. Thank you Matthew Perry and rest in peace.

Geez, 54 years old. That's me in 2025. And apparently, just an everyday accident, the type of thing that could claim anyone.

I never watched much of his stuff, but still a tragic loss. May he indeed rest in peace.

This sucks. I always wanted good things for Matty. He was my favourite Friend growing up but I loved him seeing him in everything he did. I really liked what he did as Joe Quincy on The West Wing. Not just what happened in his second episode with the VP scandal but how the show kept reinforcing the idea that both parties could work together. Chandler actually flying to Yemen to escape Janice is one of my favourite episode endings ever and I only wish the following episode had him still in Yemen!
