Matt Smith strokes the Ego of American Sci-Fi Buffs...

I don't think it's stroking the ego so much. American audiences seem to whoop and holla at the drop of a hat.

Not necessarily... On that note, you wouldn't happen to have any hats do you? I need to drop some in traffic.

I like how CNN chose a some very uncommon photos to illustrate Troughton and Baker. Troughton's influence on Smith has been very much in evidence this past season.

Indeed. Smith has stated that most of his mannerisms are derived from the Second Doctor. I especially like "Closing Time" when the Doctor walked into Craig's house and said, "Ah! You redecorated! I don't like it."

And watch his live performance during the proms. That was very much Troughton. Yet at the same time he's managing to make the part his own (as opposed to being an impersonation of Troughton).

Speaking of whom - I just finished listening to the Eleventh Doctor audio book The Eye of the Jungle, read by Patrick's son, David Troughton. He sounds so much like his father - it must be eerie to listen to him read Doctor Who and the Abominable Snowmen. I know Big Finish won't hire impersonators to play Hartnell or Patrick Troughton in the audios, but they could use David no problem at all.

Well he's in a position to comment on different fans. I havent seen much of his US interviews it was interesting.
I also grew uo with very little dr who on tv which is a shame.

Hell, here in Texas, it's practically a part of daily conversation.

"Hey, Bubba! How are you?"

"WOOOOOOOOO!"

"Good to hear. And the wife?"

great video and matt looks awesome in a cowboy hat by the way. and that's coming from a Texan.

Hearign about David Troughton akes me wish there was a need for a Second Doctor voice over on the show. Maybe just an old Tardis audio file or something?

Heck even back in the 80's it was common knowledge that American fans were more outgoing that British ones. I always figured that was part of the attraction of US conventions. Having several hundred or a thousand people go nuts just by showing your face on stage has got to feel good.
