Matt Smith On The Johnathan Ross show with new clip

After seeing this, I'm all kinds of stoked about Smith's performance. I've been enthusiastic about him from the outset - I liked how he was almost an unknown and an unexpected choice. I like his odd, almost alien features, I thought his debut in TEOT was great (and managed to make me smile after a teary farewell to Tennant) and I liked the trailers for the new series.

But I found myself with a huge smile, actually laughing out loud during the clip of Vampires in Venice. I just loved the way he played that scene - completely off-the-wall without being parodic. I can't imagine too many other actors who would have approached it in that way and I think uniqueness is an important quality for an actor playing The Doctor. Plus factors like the Id card with Hartnell's pic could only endear him to me.

Smith seemed in interview to be a nice bloke and to be slightly eccentric and young fogey-ish himself, without coming across as a poseur or affected. I have absolutely no doubt that he's going to be brilliant. David Tennant will be a hard act to follow but while he was my favourite Doctor and his farewell performance was heartbreaking, I'm already not missing him.

I just caught that segment and found it reassuring, I think Matt Smith appears to be quite Doctor-ish enough for me even just being interviewed.

I'll have to look back but I thought the whole

"Tell me your plan"

thing worked with Max Capricorn in "Voyage of the damned"

 So far, while I have a couple of trepidations this looks like it could be good.

I loved that bit.

"And we are thumbs upping... WHY?!"

I thought Brian Cox was great on there too.

I liked the bit in the green room when Wossy asked him if he'd got the science right on why the Doctor had to regenerate.

oh, it was Professor Cox, not played-William-Stryker-in-X2-Brian Cox?

Funny convergence but we just had Brian Cox voice the Elder ood that kept repeating that voice over for the past 6 months

"the darkness heralds only one thing....the end of time itself"

Just watched the show on iplayer. I think Matt Smith is going to be bleedin' awesome.

I did last night after work. Not the biggest Wossy fan, never really have been, but the interview was great, Matt just moves all the time, constantly moving his head and arms and hands, never sits still and just keeps talking.

The new sonic screwdriver prop was a surprise though. Wasnt expecting him to fish out of his pocket and show the entire nation. Still looks cool though.

Scene looked awsome. He just has this confident swagger about his Doctor, a bit of captain Jack Sparrow dusted around in his movements aswel, which i wasnt expecting.

Buut the scene was just astounding. He just has this presence, and his reaction to the fact that they had no shaddows, and was kind of in awe that he was looking at Vampires, and couldnt quite believe it, and questioning if he was seeing it right, and all that was on Matts face, at the same time. Which was what attracted Moffat to him in the first place.

"To days to come..." *Tips hat to Matt*

yeah he's got the tipsy swagger of Sparrow, especially the "hello handsome" bit.

Moffat even wanted Smith to dress like a pirate/Sparrow.

And Moffat sees the doctor as more of a swashbuckling adventurer rather than a alien with 905 years of baggage.

Pretty much sums up that the doctor in whatever form still has fun even in the face of danger and death.
