Matt Smith and the anniversary special

I would love to see how another producer would handle Smith's Doctor. But I know, deep down, that that possibility has never been in the cards.

We will see another producer write for Matt Smith's Doctor. In twenty years, Smith will not even be fifty, and he'll be back for one of those reunion things.

From some rumors it seemed that filming "House" in America strained Huge Laurie's relationship with his family
It's not rumors. Laurie's admitted that outright. He came closest to quitting in the fourth season, at roughly the same time as the WGA strike.

Or it could be a half-assed British tabloid spreading barely substantiated rumors to give their sales figures a boost.

I don't know if she's truly still in an "insider" position to know these things, but Daphne Ashbrook, who was in the 96 movie, has posted on her facebook saying that Matt is currently signed with the series through 2015.

She posted that on Twitter as well. I followed the chain of links, but I'm not convinced -- it led back to someone's Tumblr and a single sentence that Matt was signed through 2015 without a corroborating source.

I think you're missing the big picture there. How would she know this unless maybe she's going to be in the anniversary special with "her Doctor"?

So, only a handful more episodes at the rate things are going! :guffaw:

Oh, don't be negative. It'll be a full fourth season for Matt, six in late 2014, seven in 2015. 12th Doctor in 2016. Or maybe 2017.

I know they're splitting a 8+1+8=17 episode series over 2014-2015. They're not reducing, the opposite's going to happen infact see! Would be a nice series if it had a planned arc as large as Series 6's. That's an obvious thing Moffat has yet to do.

In other words, two eight episode seasons with a Christmas special. :)

To be honest, if the coproduction rumors pan out, that's what I would expect to happen anyway.

It's also, TBH, the BBC's current preferred strategy for flagship shows (cf Top Gear, Ripper Street, Death In Paradise, Call The Midwife, etc)

The Christmas special will feature a regeneration and a new Doctor, but Matt Smith will continue as a Max Headroom style head in a box that is the Doctor's new companion.

Yeah I wouldn't neccesarily believe Barrowman when he says that, especially given it's only a few weeks ago that he tweeted that he was!
