"Masters of the Universe" Film in Development (Again)

I'm a little surprised they went with someone who's a relatively unknown up and comer for He-Man, I would think that would be the kind of role they'd want a big A-lister for, to really try to draw in the crowds.

Maybe they’ll go the Superman The Movie/Batman 1989 etc route of a lesser-known actor in the title role but a big name as the villain?

Dolph was pretty well known by then after Rocky IV, no? Probably as big (or small) a draw as Frank.

Michael Keaton was fairly well-known (He'd just come off of Beetlejuice and Clean and Sober).

True. Certainly not an unknown like Christopher Reeve. But not really a box office draw either. Which is why I said lesser-known earlier - he was certainly less famous than Jack Nicholson, on whom most of the publicity focussed, IIRC.

It certainly begs the question of who's going to play Skeletor.

They’d all be great choices but it might be interesting to see someone who hasn’t done that sort of role before. Imagine, say, Henry Cavill or Viggo Mortensen as old bony face

You need someone who can do menacing.

Someone with stage presence.

I'm not quite certain Cavill has the necessary gravitas to pull off Skeletor (Besides, he's too associated with Superman to be believable as Skeletor).

Speaking of American actors, Willem Dafoe might be able to pull it off.

Dolph was known but he wasn't a name. He was "the Russian from Rocky IV," but two years had already passed by the time Masters of the Universe came out so he had cooled off, and then Masters of the Universe cooled him off some more.
