Master of Orion: Conquer the Stars

Meh. Whatever value the MOO brand had was killed by MOO3.

Plus, F2P is synonymous with "worthless" to me.

I'm waiting for a new Master of Magic. Someday. Someday.

It would be very difficult for this to be worse than MOO3, likewise it would be very difficult for this to be better than MOO2.

If you want the MOO experience, play GalCiv, in my opinion.

No - it wasn't that much fun... There is an actual end to a 1040A form - there didn't appear to be one for MOO3.

It would just drag on and on and on...zzzzzzz

The best part of MOO3 was uninstalling it.

I'm probably being unfair, but if you reach a point in the design of your game where you're thinking, "the only way this is playable is if the player automates everything and just clicks 'next turn' over and over," it may be time to step back and consider what you're doing.

Sad thing about MOO3 - I actually had contact with the lead designer when they started out the project (what, 14-15 years ago - gack). He was sharp as a tack but, there were so many politicians involved from Infogrames that the project just got choked to death.

His original concept bore little resemblance to what came out and I'm pretty sure he gave up and quit before it was done...

I think I prefered the first game most. Though some elements of the second wer nice, I liked the construction mechanics on the first one better. Especially with plotting where to build up your fleets from construction all across your empire.

Ah yes - staging the armada and remembering what is good in life:

To crush your enemies, drive them before you and to hear the lamentations of the women!

Elite, Star Control and now Masters of Orion...just need a new X-Wing and Wing Commander (before anyone mentions it Star Citizen is not Wing Commander) and it would it feels like the 90s all over again.

Massive Assault was a pretty simple, but fun turn based tactical game by the company so they have at least done something similar in the past.

You'd hope that with their current offerings that would mean that this reboot would be at least be quite well funded.

Pretty much.

Sadly, this is not an exaggeration because I felt the same way. I really couldn't believe how we went from the brilliant MOO 2 to the unplayable shit that was MOO 3. I also couldn't believe that we went from the brilliant Star Control 2 to the craptacular Star Control 3.

On a side note, there's a new Star Control game in development by, Stardock.

Have you tried playing Elemental: Fallen Enchantress Legendary Heroes? It's basically the best (so far) version of this game though a new one is about to come out, if it hasn't already. It's pretty much to Master Of Magic what GalCiv is to MOO and it's done by Stardock as well. I have it and really enjoyed it. I discovered it while thinking one day "I'd love it if there was a Civ like game set in a fantasy world". I almost downloaded Master Of Magic, then stumbled upon this and fell in love with it.

I have GalCiv 2 and really love it. I just booted it up again for the first time in years having been feeling a need to play a 4x game. I downloaded the Trek vs Wars mod (FUCK YEAH!) but despite all of that, I'd still rather play MOO 2.

There was something elegantly simple about it, yet it still felt complex and epic. Watched a vid on how to install it on a modern computer and as soon as the title screen music started playing I remembered just how much I loved it. I played the shit out of that game.

I've played the FE games but didn't care for them. I really like Endless Legend, though. That's probably as close as you can get to MoM these days.

That said, I'm not interested in giving Stardock any more of my money. Their CEO is a terrible person who supports people who send rape and death threats.
