Massive spoilers(if true) for 4.5 and season 5!

I would LOVE to see Philip Glenister show up on Doctor Who. With or without John Simm at his side. I'll take either.

I'm still waiting for other great British actors to show up, too. Eddie Izzard, Bill Nighy, Rachel Weisz, Damien Lewis, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, David Warner (beyond the audios and the upcoming animated episodes)...

So good to see I'm not the only one that loved Life on Mars and Gene Hunt. I've been hoping for Philip Glenister to show up on DW since I first watched Life on Mars.

Not the only one by far. It's rather well loved and hugely critically acclaimed over here!

I wonder if the abortion that was the US version put people off seeking out the original. :(

No clue on that but for myself, I will always take the original British version of a show over the American version. But then, I'm Canadian and the Queen is on our currency so it's my duty as a member of the Commonwealth. ;)

I only watched the last 5 minutes of the American version...that was enough!

I love Gene Hunt, sticking him on Who would be a bit of stunt casting really...having Philip Gleniester on Who on the other hand would be great (his brother Robert was in caves of Androzani many years ago...)

I usually agree, however IMHO The Office has surpassed it's British predecessor.

It's had long enough to do so. Although to be honest I don't really rate the original as highly as most people seem to, Extras was far superior.

Extras was bloody brilliant. I'd say my two favourites were with Patrick Stewart when he was obsessed with nudity and David Bowie's ad lib song making fun of Andy. Oh wait, let's not forget the special where Andy finally took the guest monster role in DW. It was on TV so was that canon? :D

To be fair, I think it did so in it's first season. YMMV.

John Simm is a terrible Master!! I understand that he is supposed to mirror The Doctor but he's actually supposed to be sinister. Anthony Head would have been a better choice. It's a shame he's already played a similar character in School Reunion.

Derek Jacobi was more convincing the Simm and he was only The Master for about three seconds!!

And in those three seconds managed to go from awesome (the dead-eyed stare, "Now I can say you provoked me...") to utterly abysmal ("I..... am.... the..... Maaaaaahhhhhhsssssstttttaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh")

Simm's version is hyper but dangerously sociopathic throughout. Which is good.

ETA- I actually wonder if Jacobi's going from brilliant to shit in about 30 seconds is actually deliberate, as a crash-course in who the Master is and his development through the classic series...

^ Certainly the complete opposite of how Simm introduces himself in the Comic Con trailer. Just a soft "My name is the Master" which already oozes menace.

Although it also sounds like the full line could be "My name is the Master. I had an accident and woke up in..."

I will piss myself laughing if they do that!

Fortunately, I watched the series before the US version came along. But even then, I would have to say the US version looked like crap.

Oh, cool! I didn't know that. I love little connections like that. :D

Maybe I love the classic series too much, but I absolutely adored that line. It didn't feel corny or cheesy at all.

I think I would hyperventilate from laughter if that happened.

Pain is more the appropriate word, especially if you watched a second of the original.

Although, I still would be interested to see what Colm Meaney would have done with Gene Hunt if they'd kept him in the cast. :vulcan: I didn't find Jason O'Mara nearly as good as Simm in the Sam Tyler role.

John Simm's The Master is one of the best, most entertaining villains I've ever seen. I'm just giddy with excitement for his return.

I had a thought about how the master would come back. What if the Master used the Archangel network.

His backup plan would be to give everyone a bad thought(just like how 10 gave everyone positive thinking)

At a specific time people think "the master" and he reforms from the ashes.
