Shepherd really IS dead. It'll suck to not get to use her in the new game, but give me a good damn story and I'll be one happy camper.

This is still my favorite game this generation. I really need to play through it again.

I don't think Shepard is dead. I think that personnel information is from a Cerberus source (note the 'known alien associates' section), and they simply believe Shepard is dead. Maybe he's undercover. Perhaps the Council have publicly stated that Shepard died in the battle for the Citadel to help cover his tracks to make it easier for him to track down Cerberus and take them out.

Spoiler: Potential ME2 Stuff

The save games could only be for the decisions you made as Shepard in ME1, regarding both plot and character-related things. Shepard could still be dead. However, I highly doubt he will be. Shepard's always been touted as the Hero with a capital H; the Luke Skywalker of Mass Effect, you could say. Of course, that could have all been misdirection, or BioWare could have simply changed their minds (it happens). But I don't think so.

At least, I hope not. I like Shepard. Well, the male Shepard, anyway. I could never get into Jennifer Hale's rendition of the female Shepard.

On a completely unrelated and really unimportant note, shouldn't this be in SF&F?

That was my exact theory based on the way the website is designed.

My guess is that you will play a new character who is sent to investigate Commander Shepard's fate and along the way you'll pick up some new companions as well as some of Shepard's old team before eventually finding Shepard him/herself.

And this better come out for the PS3 as well, I do not want to buy a 360 just for ME2.

Do you know if harddrives and saves are locked to specific systems? I took my harddrive to someones house to try to use downloaded content for rock band and it wouldn't let me do it.

There should be no problem with saves. For some DLC or XBLA stuff you'd probably have to use the license transfer tool on the XBL site.

DRM is attached to DLC from Marketplace, but saves lack any form of DRM - so while your XBLA and other marketplace content won't transfer, your saves will.
