Mass Effect (1)

I managed to pass that scenario pretty quickly. What I did is to destroy most of the geth, then I backed way out, fixed my Mako, and came back for round 2. Pretty easy that way.

Tonight I did a bunch of exploring and then started Feros. I think I'm close to the end of that mission now. The story missions are a lot of fun and I'm greatly enjoying them. So glad I stuck with it. Believe it or not, I'm actually starting to enjoy the combat!

Yeah once you get the hang of it, it's really not so bad is it? You be glad to know though that they really tightened things up in that department in ME2. Not that it's perfect of course. These are still RPGs so they'll never be quite as tight as a dedicated shooter, but by ME3 I think they managed to strike just the right balance.

I'll tell you what though, the first time I went back to ME1 after playing ME2 for a few months was a bit of a shock. The difference felt like night and day! Speaking of which, I haven't played ME2 since I got ME3 (no, that's not an invitation for anyone to start discussing the ending!) so I can't help but wonder if the difference will feel as pronounced as it did between ME1&2.

I played the ME3 demo in the middle of my ME2 playthrough; the only difference I noticed was in the difficulty, and now that I've played retail I realize that was just because a non-imported Shepard is significantly underpowered. There's no real difference in the gameplay that I noticed otherwise.

Only to the extent of...

  • Why can't I holster my weapon like I used to?
  • Why is the mission log so vague in telling me where to go or if I completed my objective?
  • Why is there only one hub world when there were at least 3 in the previous games?
  • Why is the character animation so off putting when it used to be more fluid and natural?
  • Why are there obvious multiplayer maps in the single player game?
  • How come there are no vehicle sections?
  • Saren, the Collectors, and the Human Reaper, why does everything boil down to either holding on to two electrical sparks, jumping into a beam of energy, or shooting a tube?
  • Why can't I win?

All of the other games didn't have this problem.

Jeyl: Once again you've posted an uncoded spoiler for an entry in the trilogy after the first game, when the original poster very clearly has not even started the second game. You are being incredibly rude by doing that consistently. Please spoiler code the applicable portion of your post.

Yeah Jeyl, seriously mate, this is getting dangerously close to bang out of order trolling.

I was thinking more in terms of the cover mechanics and melee stuff rather than powers and whatnot, since that's where most of the changes were made.

For some reason, I thought I was back in the ME3 (non-ending) thread since the discussion of what was different between the games. Must of had something to do with writing the post, putting it off and coming back to it after distracting myself with filmscore monthly. Simple mistake. It's cleared up. Sorry if I spoiled anything.

I'm honestly not trying to be rude or troll anyone.

And I apologize for my less-than-friendly pointing out of the spoiler. I could easily have handled that in a much more diplomatic manner (and should have).

(To explain - but not excuse - I'm feeling a little stressed because I quite stupidly decided to wait until today to write a final paper that's due tomorrow for one of my courses. You'd think after six years in college I'd learn to stop procrastinating to this extent, but apparently I'm a slow learner.)

It's totally fine. I knew exactly why you two felt justified in making your posts the moment I read them, and I felt like an idiot. I honestly thought I was posting in an ME3 thread when I hit the post button.

I know you guys aren't jerks and this was just a simple misunderstanding started by yours truly. No need to apologize. Let's just relax and have fun.

And good luck on your final. :techman:

No worries, I got a heads-up about the spoiler (and it was coded by the time I popped back in the thread).

I should get a chance to play some more tonight after not having the opportunity the last few days. Looking forward to it.

I chose to save Ashley. Mostly because I like having her on my team. There is also apparently some scenario where Wrex doesn't make it, but mine did. I saved the council as well.

Yeah, the end was pretty spectacular, even if there was very little of an epilogue. And the final boss was pretty easy, I defeated him the first time.

I've played through the first chapter of ME2. Liking it so far. Definitely smoother controls although it may take a while to adjust. The opening (before you control Shephard) was pretty stunning.

^On Virmire, if you don't have enough charm or intimidate to convince Wrex to help you destroy the Genophage cure, then you have to put him down. Or you can just choose to kill him straight out, if you're a dick.

Its also easier to keep Wrex alive if you do his side mission.

Who ended up being your ME1 love interest, Ood? Ash or Liara?

Yeah it's a neat beginning, and it's nice to see the Normandy one last time before it's blown to smithereens. The only problem is, you need to sit through all those cut scenes every single time you want to roll a new character, and there's no way to skip them. Custom face you made turned out horrible looking in game? Sorry, gotta do it all over again! :scream: At least ME1 and ME3 go straight to the face generator.

I chose Liara. Ashley kind of irritated me so I decided to go with Liara.

I'm at the point in ME2 where I get to start collecting my team. Should be fun!

Anyone else find the font size in ME2 way too small? I'm playing on a 27" tv and it's tough to make out some of the text. The subtitles are hard to read too.

Incidentally, you can also have Ash kill him...or she'll do it anyway if you don't and you can yell at her for disobeying orders.

I guess Wrex doesn't play much more than a minor role in the future games, then. That's a shame because I really like him. I'd like to be able to find a way to cure the genophage. (No spoilers, please. I'm sure it's possible that there is such a mission and I just don't know about it.)

When I was going through my squad screens I noticed there seemed to be slots for about 10 characters in ME2. That seems like a lot. At the risk of going a little off-topic here, I'm going to say that I prefer games where you either have a small team that stays consistent throughout the game (i.e. FF X-2), or multiple characters but you are forced to take certain parties for the majority of the game (FF IV, FF XIII). I never liked having the option to have tons of characters (like Chrono Chross) because it seems like you get into a groove with a certain party and then you never want to switch it up. Agree/disagree?
