It was okay but the songs were no where near as good as the original. Part of wishes they brought back one of them at the end.
Nice to see the angel of death herself, Landsbury still around. I imagine she got her role due to her working with Tomlinson in Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
Nice little cameo of the original Jane Banks. Shame the actor who played Michael died back in the 1970’s.

I gave it an A+. It's different than the original, but it's great. Emily Blunt is a worthy successor to Julie Andrews and Lin-Manuel Miranda was awesome as Jack. This was clearly a sequel, not a remake.
I will add that both my dad and I got choked up at points. And my dad doesn't tend to lose it at movies!

How is this Sci-Fi? Well I guess it is Fantasy, not a movie I would usually see in this section. :) LOL

It was enjoyable but I think the only line of a song I remember is the “Nothing’s gone forever, only out of place” (mainly because of the trailer.) Blunt and my man Lin (huge Hamilton fan) were great. The story was pretty much beat for beat a remake of the original. B+.

And due to Julie Andrews turning down the cameo role. I've read that one was the role reserved for Julie Andrews if she decided she wanted to be in the movie. I do understand her reasoning. Not wanting to distract from Emily Blunt's performance. But it would have still been nice to see her in the movie.

The movie was entertainable. Actually went to see two movies the same night. Mary Poppins and Aquaman. I think of the two I preferred the one with the real Mary Poppins, Julie Andrews. Even if it was just a voice role

The movie as a whole was respectful to the original but it still can’t compare. It was good entertainment for the moment, though.

Agreed, the songs weren’t as good as I would have expected them to be. I also enjoyed Nothing’s gone forever, only out of place.

Saw it over the week end and liked it a lot. Th movie had the feel of a 1960's production from the opening credits. Overall, I thought the acting was very good,, especially Emily Blunt who was perfect. Great seeing Dick Van Dyck again. hard to believe he's in his 90's. To me, the movie had every bit of the magic and charm contained in the books.

Although I agree that generally, the songs weren't as memorable (at least on my initial listening) as the original, with the exception of that one ballad Mary sang, I still enjoyed them. In particular, I liked Lin-Manuel's rapping. It fit right in with the light "rapping" that was in the original.

Glad to have the Angela Landsberger "mystery" cleared up. I was wracking my brain trying to remember if she was in the original or how she otherwise fit into this movie. I'm not the biggest Julie Andrews fan, or fan of the original movie, but it would still have been a nice little surprise seeing her in the movie.
