Fox has just revealed a whole bunch of new information on their upcoming X-Men TV series, including a title, The Gifted, character names and a teaser.
Here's the description on the show's Wikipedia page, which cites a Variety article:
Wikipedia said:
Two ordinary parents take their family on the run from the government when they discover that their children have mutant abilities, and join an underground community of mutants who have to fight to survive

So, recasting for Blink, Polaris without any connection to her actual father (I guess since Legion removed Xavier from the main character's family tree FOX decided that they should remove one of Magneto's kids in another show to match) and most of the main cast share a last name with the second or third most well known Marvel Comics HYDRA/nazi villain (Baron Strucker). Also, they stole a DC villain's name (there is no Marvel character named Eclipso, just the DC villain) and added one of the few X-Men to pretty much stay dead (why not just use Warpath?).

Not very promising, but what we have looks about 1000x better then Marvel's Clock and Dagger at the very least, and its definitely better then Legion, so I'll check out the first episode. Maybe it will surprise me.

Well, assuming its a TV show set in modern times, unless they kidnap Ian mcKellan and force him to act on the show we certainly won't be seeing magneto. Also, Mckellan is 77 but Magneto has to be at least a decade older based on his age in the flashbacks to his wartime experience, and the actress playing Polaris is 22, so I doubt they'll want to talk about how a 65-70 year old magneto got her mother pregnant.

That, combined with there being no chance of a Magneto cameo and FOX not even using the Xavier relationship with Legion, which is arguably one of the biggest parts of that character, I'd say its very unlikely Polaris is related to Magneto.

To be clear, that issue isn't the main reason why I'm fairly uninterested in the show. Its an issue all the FOX X-Men productions have had (massively misusing most X-Men characters and if they're B-list or lower dropping basically everything off the character but their name and powers). Its just one thing. The uninteresting premise and having the focus of the show be teens is a bigger issue for me, and even with Polaris I'd probably be more annoyed if she doesn't have green hair then if she's Magneto's daughter or not.

Legion wasn't designed to be directly connected to the XMCU; this series is, even if its events aren't dependent on what's happening in the films.

Well, that doesn't excuse not having an Xavier connection. it doesn't even need to be Patrick stewart, in fact I'd hope his standards are way too high to be on that show. But, I really dislike Legion and I don't really care if it uses Xavier or not because they're not even using the real character of Legion, so expecting Xavier would be a bit silly. I'm just using it as an example of FOX using or not using characters.

As for the X-Men universe, again having Polaris's Dad be Magneto in his mid-60s to late 70s, which he would have to have been if the show is set in present day, would never happen. Plus, FOX loves completely changing B-list X-Men, removing everything but their names and powers, so between those two things I doubt the Polaris on the show will be Magneto's daughter.

I also doubt she'll have green hair, because that's too comic book-y for FOX, but since its a more realistic thing to have thenthe XCU Magneto being connected to a modern day Polaris it annoys me more that they almost certainly won't do it.

I'm not sure if you've actually been watching Legion, but I just did some research and your complaint about the series not connecting Charles Xavier to David Haller is woefully inaccurate, since the series featured Charles' iconic wheelchair in flashback in the seventh episode of its first season and explicitly identified him, at least for the viewing audience, as being David's father.

Well, 1) this is not relevant to the topic, and 2) a wheelchair is an easteregg until they outright state Xavier is his Dad. But, like I've said, Legion sucks and doesn't really deserve the connection anyway, so I don't really care. Patrick Stewart could even show up and it wouldn't help the show

Looks possibly good. I have no investment with any of the characters but I'll definitely check it out because of Amy Acker.

I can't remember what I thought of the first trailer, but this one looks pretty great. Since we know the X-Men and Brotherhood did (or do?) exist in this universe, then I wonder if that means Polaris will actually be Magneto's daughter? I say we start pushing now for an Ian McKellen appearance.

No, they're both separate from the films. From the SDCC panel yesterday:

“One of the great favors that Days of Future Past did for all of us is establish that there are many streams,” “One answer is that we exist in one of those streams. This is its own universe, we don’t exist in the same timeline as any specific movie or comics. But there are shared characters. We’re doing our own thing, and, as I say, there are many streams.”

So this series is not directly in continuity with the movies. It may draw on similar characters and concepts, but the events unfold independently. Fox seems to be embracing a "multiverse" model like the one DC uses to justify the lack of overlap among the movies, the Arrowverse, Gotham, etc., rather than the MCU approach of a nominally unified continuity. So the X-Men movies are one timeline (or two, or possibly more given their inconsistencies), Legion is another, and Gifted is another. That way, they can have the conceit that their world is cosmically connected on some level to the movies, but be free to take the story in their own direction without having to worry about consistency with the movies.

I don't know about multiverse...it some ways feels like a cash cow - make money off Marvel while it's hot.

I would not care about continuity if these were years apart. But this is simultaneously operating.

I mean, they all co-exist in the comics. People might not follow ALL of the titles, but that's OK. But enough overlap to help fans support more than one creative work

Translation: "Hey, nerds! Are you frustrated by Agents of SHIELD sharing continuity with the MCU, but never being even slightly referenced by the movies? Well, have we got a treat for you - all the disadvantages of a show built around the universe's C-list characters, with not even a vague hope of a cameo from any of the movie stars!"

The quote from Christopher does say they will share characters, and we do get a reference to the X-Men & Brotherhood, so it sounds to me like there is a chance we might see some of the bigger name characters.
