Marvel's Squadron Supreme (of America) and DC's Retaliators

True. But neither Hyperion nor Gladiator have a huge amount in common with Superman other than being the most powerful flying brick of their respective teams, and yet each is recognized as a pastiche / homage to him.
Gladiator has a Supermaish power set and a like Superman is one of the few remaining members of his race. Similarly Hyperion is also the last of his race. He's also been given an alliterative secret identity that uses glasses as a disguise.

In Guardian's case he's a peak human carrying a shield and he was created by Simon and Kirby. Even if we don't recognize him as a homage (or even a ripoff), it's still worth noting the resemblance.
The Guardian is just an athletic cop who put on a costume to crime in his neighborhood. He's not a super-soldier or a guy who's been training to fight crime since he was a child.

Not sure that counts as a homage.

That's my point. It's not a homage. It's a direct rip off of their own character. They openly admit that they created Fighting American because Marvel had revived Captain America without them.

Squadron Supreme is the "evil" version of the Justice League. DC already has their own.

You might be thinking of the Squadron Sinister, which are evil JLA counterparts on Earth-616. Squadron Supreme is a good version of the Squadron Sinister (so, good counterparts of the JLA) on Earth-712. But now there is a good Squadron Supreme on 616, and I think they're calling themselves the Squadron Supreme of America. :)

Gladiator has a Supermaish power set and a like Superman is one of the few remaining members of his race.

Plus his real name is 'Kallark'.

Although it's worth pointing out that when he first appeared he and the imperial guard were a homage to superboy and the Legion of Super-heroes rather than the JLA.
