Marvel to make a Doctor Strange movie?

Wow, cool! Doctor Strange is one of two Marvel characters whose movies I've been eagerly waiting for (the other is The Sub-Mariner, which I guess poses certain difficulties, such as how to depict a guy running around in swim trunks without it looking a tad farcical :rommie:).

Shortlist: Bradley Cooper and Johnny Depp.

Our current Bruce Banner, Marc Ruffalo, is more the Doctor Strange type to me. In an ideal world, he'd have that role and Edward Norton would still be Banner.

How about casting some other characters? Scarlett Johannson should be Clea, not the Black Widow. Umar = Angelica Huston or Meryl Streep. Dormammu should be voiced by James Earl Jones, and if he's not available, Dan Castellaneta. :D

Wow, that's some poor casting! :p I'm so glad you don't get to decide these things. Strange should be played by someone with gravitas. John Hamm would be perfect.

Still sticking with Oded Fehr as my top choice for Strange...although David Tennant might not be a bad choice, either (take a look at his stills for FRIGHT NIGHT).

We can always work in a Downey cameo as he is drinking with Strange at a party shortly before Strange crashes his car.

Lani Tupu for Baron Mordo

As has been pointed out, Robert Downey Jr. would have been perfect if he wasn't already Tony Stark elsewhere.

Director's gotta be Guilermo del Torro, though.

Jon Hamm should just play every superhero.

Johnny Depp would be way too expensive for Marvel Studios. It would never happen. I'd like to see someone in his mid-thirties or early forties as Strange. He should be an established surgeon at the beginning of the movie.

Or, crazy idea, Zachary Quinto?
I think you might be onto something here. Good candidate.

Doctor Strange

By the time Marvel might get around to this in another year or so he'll have shot Trek 2 and Strange would be a good possible character/franchise role to step into. Assuming Abrams Trek is only going to be 3 movies. He can transition from one franchise to another.

I never thought about Zach Quinto but he is possibly locked up with the Star Trek franchise for the foreseeable future unless he would have time to film stuff in between the wait. I just like Patrick Dempsey so much. It was really seeing him play a charming but kind of punk ass type character in "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" that convinced me he would be perfect for the part.

I think a "Doctor Strange" film would have so much potential. I already have a visual sense of the magic and dark arts practiced in the movie. I tend to agree that Dormmamuu would probably be depicted in CGI. I'd work my damnest to make sure it was realistic as possible.

Quinto hasn't really done much, if anything, since Star Trek has he? Not like his stock is plummeting or anything, but shouldn't he be continuing to get his name out there?

But yeah if they did go the Bradley Cooper route, I'd rather see him as Strange than Eric Draven.

Yeah he's not done much at all aside from a few short films and I think a web series project that he launched himself last year. Can't recall what it was called now. He'd make a fine Namor. It'd be funny seeing Spock shout "Imperius Rex!!!!" half the movie when he went into battle!

I don't know if his name is big enough to open a movie, but I think Karl Urban would be an excellent Doctor Strange. It's just a shame Keye Luke isn't around to play the Ancient One.

Surely Quinto is a more obvious choice for the Sub-Mariner, given Namor's oft-remarked resemblance to Mr Spock?

I see Namor as more conventionally-handsome than Spock (never thought about a Namor-Spock connection). Quinto would be more the Doctor Strange type. And he's vanished because he's on Broadway now, which annoys me, he needs to get his fine ass back on TV! :D

Of the other suggestions, Patrick Dempsey is a good one for Doctor Strange.

Possibly, but I'm not sure there are any immediate plans for a Namor movie.

Plus, there's no rule he can't play both (although that would make a DEFENDERS movie tricky).

^ I do recall some time ago that Jonathan Mostow was attached to a Namor project for one of the big studios (given that he made T3, it makes me think of James Cameron's Aquaman on Entourage!) but I've heard nothing about it since.

Yeah, this was when Dwayne Johnson was still being bandied about for the role. It has been speculated that the situation board at the end of "Iron Man 2" clearly shows Atlantis as one of it's hot points and I think Finge (I keep spelling his name a hundred different ways lol) stated that "Sub-Mariner" is in the works.

On the other hand, I can see Quinto not wanting to get typcast as "that pointy-eared guy." :)
