Marvel Teases 'The Death of Spider-Man'????

Not certain, but could the "Death of Spider-Man" angle be more about the death of the Spider-Man identity, and not necessarily Peter himself dying?

TBH, I'm still not that interested in current Spider-Man continuity, but maybe it's not as obvious as it seems.

Well as I said in my original post there were heavy rumors prior to comic con this year that Marvel was planning another story to remove Peter as Spider-Man at the conclusion of Brand New Day. It will be interesting to see what happens in Feb, and if Marvel is going to comment on this soon.

Maybe they'll have Peter make another deal with the devil...this time he'll have never been bit by the Spider and will instead be living out of a gutter...On the plus side, though, his aunt will live another five years, so it's totally worth it.

Eh, I'd be happy if they reset the whole Spideyverse all the way back prior to Gwen's death. Have John Romita Sr. draw the final story with Parker living his preferred life with Gwen. Give him the House of M alternate life with Uncle Ben still alive, Peter and Gwen having kids and there ya go. Oh and erase the whole "Gwen boned Norman Osborn and had his kids" travesty they puked out (unless that was part of the Mephisto deal). Yeah, I miss Gwen. I've missed her for 40 years...

Won't happen, so the least they could do is fire Joe Quesada and reboot Peter and MJ's marriage back. That won't happen either.

Besides it looks like Jean or at least the Phoenix is finally returning in "Age of X" from the full teaser poster.

I hate when publishers pull this sort of predictable stunt. The Death of Superman, Knightfall, the Death of Bruce Wayne, the Death of Captain America ... yawn!

"After months of Spider-men taking up the mantle(even Stark making a Spider-man armor)........."

"SPIDER-MAN RETURNS!!!"

:techman:

I just saw this up on CBR? Anyone care to speculate? There were heavy rumors prior to San Diego Comic Con that Peter would be removed as Spider-Man (these rumors were tied in with the Brand New Day concluding news) but nothing came of them. Interesting and obviously controversial.

If they hadn't already done this with Superman, Batman, Captain America and about a million minor superheroes, I'd give a damn. But this sort of "kill off the original so we can have a 'World without XXXXX' storyline for 6 months and then reveal the real XXXXXX has been living in hiding all this time" storyline needs to be retired for about 30 years. It's lost all effectiveness - and controversy because if they "replace" Peter Parker, it's only going to be for a few issues, or until a new creative team comes in and does a reboot. How many Batman and Superman and Legion of Superheroes and Wonder Woman and Captain America reboots have there been in the last 5 years, again?

Just once I'd like to see a comic company have the balls to actually kill off a character forever. No more Superman or Batman or Spider-Man. Put their money where their creative mouths are. Of course that'll never happen. (Not that I'd like it to happen either, but you know what I'm getting at.)

Jean has actually died twice if I'm not mistaken, just like Buffy!!! I believe the first time was the Dark Phoenix Saga of course and the second time was during the conclusion to Morrison's New X-Men run when she asks (begs) Logan to run her through with his claws while they're on Asteroid M realizing what is happening. She was then resurrected as the so-called White Phoenix of the Crown where she's been regenerating in the 'White Hot' room.

Wow, looking it up, I think you're right. (Although I vaguely recall some minor storyline with the Fitzroy-and-Cortez Hellfire Club/Upstarts thing where Jean died for a couple of minutes.)

Anyway, does Maddy Pryor count as a return? How about .5 returns?

I think the Avengers have had Wonder Man die a few times. I think Iron Man has died too. There was a weird period in the 90s where he died and then was replaced by an alternate version, but then he came back as a 'merged' Tony. Or something like that.

I also think every member of the FF has been dead at least once, with Reed being the longest dead (for about two years). Apparentally they are going to kill off another FF member fairly soon.

I'm sure pretty much all the X-men have been dead at some point. Although some characters such as Collosus and Cyclops have been more moody since their ressurections.

^ Yeah Hickman just kicked off the storyline. Also CBR had their weekly T and A segment with Tom Brevoort and Axel Alonso who refused to touch on "Death of Spider-Man" and made a a comment about how fans thought "Brand New Day" was the death of Spider-Man (echoing several thoughts here and on other boards). He did say that they would address it eventually and that it was just one of many bomb shell announcements that Marvel will be making over the next two months.
