Marvel Teases The Age of X!

It's New York Comic Con right now this weekend, and I'm surprised at how big this con is! Had no idea it was a major con. So I'll be following the news this weekend. So far one interesting announcement is from the X-Men panel yesterday where Marvel teased an upcoming story arc called "The Age of X" and provided a teaser image and this tag line "It is the end of mutant kind as you know it". It is slated to start in Jan 2011. Any thoughts? Sounds like they're gearing up to do another "House of M" or "Age of Apocalypse" style of storyline.

I'm actually intrigued with this one though. Have had no interest whatsoever in the previous major X-story lines. Quite frankly in my opinion the X-Universe has become too big to follow. So many things going on at one. X-Men in San Fran, X-Men fighting vampires, X-Men on Utopia, X-Men in space, etc. It's grown too large for my liking and they need to start reducing their number of books. I wouldn't mind two or three titles.

If it is an Age of Apocalypse type story, I'm intrigued. I always enjoy the X-Men alternate universe tales.

I usually enjoy the premise and the lead ups and maybe the first few issues but then, always, Marvel chickens out and pulls out a shit ending and thinks it's gold.

It's a shame, but I gave up on X-Men a few years ago. I usually only got the main title (whatever it is these days), and I usually had no idea what was going on.

I literally cannot remember the last time I enjoyed a Marvel crossover event. :(

Ever. Not ever. They make it too much work. I'm a guy who only buys a few titles - comics are just a pastime from my youth that I like to hang on to, not a way of life for me. So when they have these massive crossover events. I only see what's happening in The Avengers or Spidey or Thor. They actually manage to make comics LESS enjoyable for me.

I found the discussion at the panel about "Will Marvel drop their prices to $2.99 like DC?" more interesting in that link. The big run on of excuses of "Do you want your LCS to go out of business?". Really, I want a more affordable hobby and you say its the little guy that I'll hurt? Marvel is going to get their money, LCS be damned.

I enjoyed "Operation: Galactic Storm" even though I didn't buy all the titles. The ones I did read just clicked, I guess.

And that's about it.

I could understand being critical of the thing if there was you know some kind of plot details revealed about or the story was revealed, but there is NOTHING revealed aside from a teaser cover. We don't even know if this will be a company wide crossover or just involve the X-Men. To respond to Obi-Wan Shinobi...umm most of what Marvel decides to do is to attempt to drive their sales quota up! That's like their primary function, to convince you to buy their product any way they can.

I will agree that recently their story arcs have been uninteresting. I thought "Dark Reign" went on for too long and went in a direction I disagreed with ultimately. I haven't really read any of the X-Books in a long time because I've felt that there are too many and the universe have gotten too big. I understand the sentiment but think just shutting it out without knowing what it even involves is a bit silly.

Which is also a really dumb explanation. When companies sell product to a retailer they have their retail price allowing room for added profit for the retailer and the whole thing makes up the store price the customer pays.

If a company lowers the end price, i.e. the store price they have to adjust their retail price downward too so the shop can earn something too so in effect th margin stays the same.
The loss of revenue should be offset by increased sales volume and if it's going well the total profit could be higher because much more volume is selling.

However it still is a gamble and people are winning Nobel prizes in Economy to figure out safe ways of predicting this. Marvel just doesn't want to lower prices but has no other option when its main competitor drops prices by 25% and they have to follow suit because otherwise they'll really endanger their revenue.

Well, they're doing the oppposite with all these "events" in my case.

Ha, I hadn't thought about Galactic Storm in ages. It was okay, yeah. The Iron Man issues were pretty sweet. Provided good grist for Busiek in Avengers Forever, as well.
