Marvel Studios may be planning more MCU for the small screen

Me too. It sounds like he should be a good fit for this kind of show.

What is the timeline on the Netflix series. People in the Daredevil thread are already talking about season 2 for that show--but won't the first five series take place over a couple of years?

Reading the official statements and announcements, it seems unclear whether any of the shows will get a 2nd season before the Defenders season comes out (ca. 2017/18?).

But if Daredevil is a hit (which it seems to be), it seems unlikely to me that they'd want to wait that long to make more of it.

Well, they only have so many resources. Considering there is no ad revenue, rushing a second season would probably not make them more money. Now if Jessica Jones is not a hit, that might encourage them to do a Daredevil Season 2.

If everything isn't locked down contracturally for the Cage/Iron Fist shows, there's always a chance of rolling them into one and doing Daredevil season 2 with the freed up capacity...

I suspect that Marvel Studios has a long-term plan in place for the Netflix shows as much as it does for its feature films. There are typically a couple of years between installments in any given film series, so it wouldn't be any harder for them to plan that far ahead with their Netflix seasons. Their actual planning surely extends far beyond what's been announced to the public so far.

Luke Cage! The man is in the house!

It actually occurs to me that there might be a shorter gap between AKA:JJ and "Luke Cage" simply because the lead is already cast. Stephen S. DeKnight said that Krysten Ritter wasn't even cast until he was filming the DD finale, which precluded any cross-pollination. But in the case of "Luke Cage", Mike Colter is already cast, which may speed up the process. And then, if Danny Rand first appears in Luke's show...

I saw the pictures earlier today. So do we know yet what exactly the relatinonship is between the AKA Jessica Jones and Luke Cage's are? I'm thinking either the two leads will be together in AKAJJ and he'll be a regular person and it'll end with him being set up to get his powers in the first LC episode, or he'll already have his powers in AKAJJ and LC will be a prequel explaining where they came from.

I'm thinking about how Daredevil handled the power exposition. They didn't really make a big deal of it. Matt's origin scene with the accident was only shown after the fact at the start, and the rest of the backstory and power exposition trickled out over the first half-season. So I suspect the origin of Luke Cage's powers might be handled in a similar way -- not as a central focus, but as a background element in a story that's more about drama and relationships and such.

After all, AKA Jessica Jones is reportedly an adaptation of the Alias comic, and I gather that began with Jessica having already lost her powers, with her past being revealed in flashback and the like. Another reason not to expect the origin stories to be front and center here.

I wouldn't be surprised if Iron Fist downplayed Danny's origin story as well. Not sure a fight scene against an actual dragon fits into the style of the Netflix shows.

^You're not wrong though in that they'll most likely treat her super-hero career/origin story as backstory and flashback material. After all the character's main hook is not that she's a superhero turned P.I. but rather a P.I. who stopped being a superhero (subtle difference.) It'd make little sense to focus on her origin story.

Mind you if you follow that line of thinking to it's logical conclusion, one might argue that the event that made her give up the life and go back to civvie street *is* her origin story and not whatever it was that gave her super powers and a costume.
