Marvel/Netflix Daredevil season 2.

Can't boot it up until tomorrow night. So looking forward to this. Glad that those of you who have been able to watch some of it today are enjoying.

I watched the first episode. It was a great start to the season. I was a little surprised they moved things along so fast with the Punisher.
I didn't expect him to come face to face with DD for quite a while, so I was shocked when we already got the big fight at the end of E1.

Trust me, that's not the big fight.

Yay, Nelson & Murdock has a sign on the door now! Let's hope they can maintain their door better than Jessica Jones could.

Man, Foggy is really good at talking people down. That's a more impressive skill by far than being able to beat them into submission.

On episode 3:
The stairway fight isn't as impressive as the first-season corridor fight it's trying to emulate. First off, it's just not a novelty anymore, and we kind of expected them to try to top it. But there are a lot more points where it's evident that there's a cut -- sometimes when DD's back fills the shot briefly, but sometimes when there's a quite overt cut that they just hope we'll overlook in the flow of the moment (there were a few of those in Hitchcock's Rope too). And there's a bit too much that's clearly digital trickery, like the chains and that one shot where a guy gets yanked down one level by the chains. So it just generally feels more contrived and less successful. I was more impressed by the continuous take in the hospital scene when Foggy came to look for Claire.

The Punisher is not a character I want to feel any sympathy for, but Bernthal's performance in the graveyard scene in episode 4 really tested my resolve there. Nice surprise to see Tony Curran too.

I could've done with a bit less graphic violence here and there. Some things are more effective when implied than shown.

Just finished the first 4 episodes and my god is this show fantastic (as expected and thankfully it delivered).

All episodes are great so far but the 4th is especially great, competing against the 9th episode of season 1 where Foggy finds out about Matt/Daredevil (one of the best episodes of that season).

And the end.. :adore::adore::techman::techman:

Just finished episode 1 and it's a strong start. I will say though it is a little hard to see considering most of it is at night. Loved the final sequence though.

My one complaint so far is that the Matt/Foggy/Karen banter isn't as funny as it was last season. Otherwise it's still quite good. Elodie Yung is a stunner.

Watching episode 2 and I think Foggy is already doing more as a character than he did in season 1. Don't get me wrong I loved the flashback episode between Matt and Foggy, but this season we're seeing them actually be Lawyers. His scene with the DA was awesome.

Saw the first 2 episodes and I'm quite impressed with this version of the Punisher. He's a relentless force with Batman-like skill. A man on a mission and nothing more. They've really topped previous versions of the character and Jon Bernthal's has done a wonderful job so far. This is a much better gig for him than The Walking Dead.

The other thing I like about this season is that it really hit the ground running in a way that Jessica Jones and Daredevil season 1 didn't. Can't wait to finish by Saturday. It's that good.

Hell's Kitchen... I took a nice long walk through it in December and I was surprised to see what a posh neighborhood it was, filled with new condos and internet cafés. The one on TV truly is a fictionalized setting. No wonder it had to be filmed in Queens. I also took note that it's a 10-minute walk to Stark Tower. 5 if you run.

I'm two episodes in, and its decent so far. Foggy is a bit annoying, but that's no surprise. Punisher isn't very memorable so far. I really liked thomas Jane in the role, and so far the new guy isn't very interesting in comparison. Still, its only two episodes in. At the very least I expect the Daredevil version to eventually get more character then the horrible Punisher: Warzone Frank castle, who was extremely bland and boring.

Which is why it was so clever of them to use the Battle of New York and its aftermath to explain why the Marvel version of the neighborhood had deteriorated back to its '70s level, due to the physical and economic damage of the Chitauri invasion.

I'm not sure what the current state of Stark Tower is. The Avengers have moved to a new HQ. I think the Tower may have sustained some damage from Ultron, though I don't recall.

Yeah, Hell's Kitchen of today is pretty gentrified. The dirty streets and hard neighborhoods that 80s Daredevil and 80s Teen Titans (Cyborg is also from Hell's Kitchen) took inspiration from are gone. I imagine TPTB are aiming their DD show to be like a quasi-Sin City. Jessica Jones also felt like a crime noir in NYC.

^ I was out at night too. Felt totally safe.

2x03...

I liked the episode-long exchange between Daredevil and Punisher. Batman v Superman came a week early it seems. I totally side with Matt of course. I wonder how they'll bring Matt and the audience around to Frank's point of view, assuming they do.

And I liked the continuous shot/fight in the hall way and staircase. Yeah, some of it did look augmented and I too wondered if there were breaks while Daredevil had his back covering the camera but it was still pretty impressive because a lot of it was still real. If indeed all of it was real then wow!

Forgot to add that we got the usual reasoning for why the villain does remove the hero's mask. A weak spot in an otherwise good show.

They wanted to jump right in instead of going for the slow build-up they did with Fisk.

Episode 3 was excellent. Maybe the fight sequence was overhyped but while it was still good, after having a season worth I almost get the sense the chareography won't be topped. It's something we expect going in, so it's not the same as experiencing it for the first time. The best scenes were Matt and Punisher on the roof debating the ethics of vigilantism. Nice to get some much needed character development on the punisher this stage of the season.

It's kind of funny watching show like this and the '66 Batman show. The fight scenes have definitely changed a lot sense then.

Watching episode 5

love the Jessica Jones reference. Nice to see the MCU tv style coming together.

That's actually the third Jessica Jones reference I've caught. The first two were Claire refering to helping Luke escape the hospital, and DA Samantha Reyes briefly appeared in JJ S1.13.

2x03...

One other thing to add. It had odd editing. They'd finish a scene then move to the next and play that out. Then when they go back to the previous scene and pick up where they left off. I don't think I've seen that before. Events usually play out in real time.

2x04...

They're giving us a decent Punisher/Frank Castle origin story. Wasn't sure if they'd do that. I also knew exactly how this episode would end. Or rather, I knew that something we saw in one of the promos would be the hook at the end.

2x05...

I'll echo something Turtletrekker said last month... Jennifer who? You know what I'm talking about. The first few episodes gave us Batman vs Superman and now Wonder Woman shows up. Or rather, Elektra Natchios. The show captured the character in a way that Jennifer Garner never did because she was too much of the girl next door. Now we've got the right look, the right demeanor and the right dose of high powered "billionaire's daughter". And we even got some backstory. It wasn't as substantial as I would have liked but at least we got something yet again that neither of Garner's movies gave us. I'm fascinated by the fact that Elektra eschewed a normal life and devoted herself to martial artistry and otherworldly matters, and I hope that this show captures that. That's probably the one thing that Garner's movie did well.

Honestly though, I can't see Hell's Kitchen deteriorating to that level and in such a short period of time.
