Marvel/Netflix Daredevil Season 1

I figured with the show starting in a couple months now would be a good time to start a specific thread for the show.

Netflix has set up the page for the show, but all that's on there is the description and teaser. I noticed while looking around on the page that it is apparently going to be TV-MA (The US TV equivalent to an R rating). This really shocks me, I was expecting TV-14 (equivalent to PG-13). I know most of Netflix's original series have been TV-MA, with HBO/Showtime/Starz levels of adult content, but I really expected that to be toned down for Marvel's stuff. Now I'm really curious to see just how far it goes. I know Steven S. Deknight was the guy behind Spartacus, but I find it hard to believe Marvel would let him go that far.

I doubt we'll see sexual stuff, even on a rated MA Netflix show I don't think Disney/Marvel are going to let that into their brand. I'm guessing the rating will be for violence and/or language. I haven't heard too much about the series, like what villains could be in it, but someone like Bullseye could definitely leave a bloody body count. It will be interesting to see how it goes, I didn't expect such a high rating. Hopefully the rating services the story and doesn't distract from it.

Marvel probably went with Netflix precisely for this reason. My guess is that there will be the same level of violence and sexuality that we get in some of the more mature Marvel comics and that fits with the gritty nature of how the street level heroes could be portrayed.

Netflix doesn't use traditional advertising.

All they want the adults to renew their Netflix subscription, and Netflix virgins to take up new subscriptions.

Kids don't mean shit to them.

Kids programming on Netflix is so that the kids will stop moving & screaming long enough for the adults upstairs to make more children with out becoming certain their children are not throwing canned food at each other.

Maybe we need to move the television out of the bedroom at our house.

Seriously, though my kids don't know what to do when they are at a friend's house and ads come on. I just wish the parental controls and profiles were better developed.

After my post I remembered that most of FX's shows and AMC shows are MA, and most of them never really go that far beyond what most TV-14 shows contain. I'm thinking that content level is probably more likely than full on Game of Thrones/Spartacus level stuff.

Alpha House on Amazon was occasionally rated MA for nudity, but for things like someone getting out of the shower. I wouldn't expect anything on the level of Game of Thrones for Daredevil, but more something like not worrying about covering people up when they would naturally be naked.

Karen Page eventually becomes a porn star who sells Daredevil's secret identity for ONE NIGHT's worth of heroin.

Call me stupid, but if you do it right, the secret identity of a Superhero should be worth a lifetime supply of heroin.

Maybe Deborah Ann Woll will do a mocudrama side project about the rise and fall of Karen Page that'll be used as a special feature on the dvd release of Darevdevil?

But they'll probably save all that for seaosn 3 of the regular series.

It's been described as "PG-16." I haven't seen anything to indicate nudity, just violence.

I'm not saying you're wrong, because you're probably right, but why hire the most beautiful woman in the world if you're going to allow her to remain contractually clothed?

With a PG-16 rating, I still expect to see everyone's bum.

To change the subject, the new motion poster with Charlie Cox is perfect. The smirk just sells it as Matt Murdock.

^ I have that movie on DVD. It features, to my knowledge, the first ever Stan Lee cameo. You can see him in the imbedded video in the 1:10-1:15 range.

Alias is the Sodomy comic.

"How come whenever you tell a guy he can do anything he wants, he always does the same thing?"

Jessica Jones.

I've been a big fan of D'Onofrio since Men in Black, so his Kingpin has been one of the things I've been most interested in with this. That's a pretty good look for the character, although I am curious if we're ever going to see him in the white suit.
I could see a really great ending for the season where they're cutting back and forth between Matt putting on his red costume for the first time and Fisk putting on the white suit.
