Marvel develping "Guardians of the Galaxy" flick!

Awesome! Will we see Nova or Rocket Racoon? Because they are appearing in Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3, so I'm sure it's all going to be tied together in some form or another.

It makes sense to do the original Guardians; it's really in the same vein as Buck Rogers and Farscape (concepts the public already has some inkling of). Also, Guardians ties directly to the Avengers; leader Vance Astro even ends up carrying Captain America's shield which survived 1,000 years into the future.

I think it's a smart move on Marvel's part and will play right into the synergy of what they're already doing.

I'm sure they are developing a lot of projects. Marvel has a lot of intellectual property. Doesn't mean it will see the light of day.

I love Rocket Raccoon so hope he would be part of it. I'm not really sure how you pull him off in a live-action movie though so good luck. ;)

Cool! That's a great series. I loved the way the characters were adapted to their various planets - Jupiter, Mercury, Pluto (which by the 31st C will be re-designated a planet, dammit!) :rommie:

And Vance Astro is just the perfect superhero name, of course.

Cool, I loved the original Gauardians Of The Galaxy and I was hoping for a live action version of some kind.

It's nice to see Marvel has the self-confidence to tackle some truly outre-looking characters. So far, they've been sticking mainly to normal looking characters for the good guys, who at the very least have human alter egos, like Mr Fantastic and the Hulk.

But the Guardians are a really bizarre looking bunch, like if the Pandora guys had several equally weird alien neighbor species and they all got tossed into the same movie. Just how much weirdness can the audience take? :rommie:

I wonder if there's any hope for The Inhumans as a movie? That is one of my all-time faves.

Yeah they're developing like a half a dozen movies right now. We're all still waiting for that "Black Panther" movie that's been in development hell. It would be interesting if this does get past the development stage though. Not really that familiar with the Guardians but it would be cool. I'd love to see a "Nova" film (Richard Rider version).

Not familiar with the Guardians but i have little hope that this movie will rock the box office.

See.. people, i.e. mainstream sheep (of which i am one to a degree), love cool stuff and if a generic hollywood blockbuster dude hears the name Rocket Racoon or Vance Astro they will pass most of the time.. i'm pretty sure on that.

Most Marvel movies work because of the cool factor and name recognition.. many non-comic book people have heard of the main characters/groups way before talk of movies have begun, some may have read the books for a while as kids but gave up when girls became more interesting but 60s era style and names just doesn't fly anymore.

So it has to have the best superhero script ever and a rocking cast to pull that off on top of decent funding and i just don't see that happening.

Doc Strange may be the last A lister not being featured in the movies.. the rest is scraping the barrel but you may get a lucky shot out of that too.

I'd love to see a film based on the original Guardians. Their origin, the Gerber-Milgrom series in the 70s and the revival in the early 90s were all terrific (I haven't bothered with the contemporary version, of course). It could also be the basis of a nice Space Opera series on TV. I hope they do it right.

I don't think the newer incarnation of Guardians of the Galaxy should be attempted. Rocket Raccoon is going to be a laugh line, a turn off, not a draw.
The original team itself will still be a tough main stream sell.

I think that with the main Avengers out of the way and that Marvel still has a few quality B-listers to work out. The Ant-Man movie, Dr. Strange, Iron Fist and Moon Knight(which I know is the longest of long shots due to Batman comparisons).

Guardians of the Galaxy would be getting fully into C-list category. Not that they aren't interesting but they are a tough sell. I'd like to see an Alpha Flight movie also but they are about in the same category.

Going back to this again from The Avengers thread but is Alpha Flight considered an "X" property? Aren't they just the Canadian X-Men?

IMO, if you have a Guardians movie, you need a walking, trash talking raccoon. Just like you need a kickass Star-Lord costume. Just like you need hot, beautiful lesbians (Moondragon and Phyla-Vell).
