Martin Clunes as the 11th Doctor? (The Next Doctor spoiler)

Further to the above:

Michael Hordern, Patrick Wymark, and Ron Moody were considered for the second Doctor before Troughton was approached, though I can't tell whether any of them were formally offered the role and declined.

Ron Moody and Stratford Johns both turned down the third Doctor before it was offered to Jon Pertwee.

Jim Dale, Richard Hearne, Michael Bentine, and Graham Crowden all turned down the fourth Doctor; the producers were seriously considering Fulton Mackay but hadn't yet offered the role when Tom Baker came to their attention.

McCoy appears to have been NT's preferred pick for the seventh Doctor, but the BBC was more reticent, and JNT also considered Ken Campbell, Dermot Crowley, David Fielder, and Hugh Futcher before the BBC agreed McCoy was the best option.

Liam Cunningham was the favored candidate for the eighth Doctor early in the preproduction process, but quickly proved to have other commitments. McGann was the favorite from then on, though a laundry list of other names was invoked at various points.

Wow thanks guys I hadn't heard of many of those almost Doctor's before. I think Ron Moody would have been a great Doctor, as would Stratford Johns.

Jim Dale would have been cool, but Michael Bentine? I suppose I'm coloured by potty time it might have been difficult to take him seriously.

Was David Collings ever considered for the Doctor? I always thought he would have made a cool 70s/80s Doc.
