Martha Kent Returns to Smallville

^
The biggest surprise would be Welling in the \S/uit...other than that like you said MR coming back.

EW:
Martha Kent is winging it back to Smallville, and word is it’s not to dispense motherly advice.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Annette O’Toole has inked a deal to reprise her role as Clark’s mom later this season.
Now they just need to sign her husband to make a return appearance as Perry White...

I saw this on Mania this afternoon...I had a haunch they would try and get Annette back on the show for an episode. The Ausiello thing also mentioned we can expect a couple more unexpected surprises? Anyone want to speculate what he's referring to? The most obvious unexpected surprise would be Michael's return but that might be to obvious.

It's confirmed!

Perry's Back

At one point it was said he wouldn't get the ability to fly until he completed his training with Jor-El, which I now think he has done...

That was never said.

Clark has had the ability to fly for a long time. He flew as Kal-El, but for some reason can't manage it as Clark.

Jor-El even recently said (in the season nine opener) Clark has the ability to fly, but, putting it into words the way Clark did when he heard this "It's all in my head?"

He also has NOT finished his training with Jor-El, but has again put it on hold so's to work things out where Lois is concerned. (This was also established in the early episodes of season nine.)

Where did you get these ideas from? They're not from the show by any means.

So Annette O'Toole AND Perry White are returning?

I'm suddenly very interested in tuning in.... I wonder if this will take place before or during the season (series?) finale.

Now all we need is baldy mcbaldhead back. I do miss Michael Rosenbaum and his Lex :(

And Ausiello has also hinted that the big obstacle for Rosenbaum's return is that he really likes having his hair back, apparently....

Maybe they could do a story where Lex's crippled body is regenerated by some technology that also restores his hair follicles.

Anyway, very glad that Perry White is returning at long last. I hope it's a recurring role. Although I wonder how they'll deal with the fact that in this continuity, Perry knows Clark has superpowers.

No, no he doesn't.

He thought Clark had superpowers. Sunspots were messing with Clark's control as well as causing them to come and go. But at the end of the episode Perry had rigged a hidden rope on his ankle and acted like he would jump to his doom if Clark did not save him. And both Perry and Clark wound up going over the side while the sunspots had Clark's powers on the fritz. Pete threw them down another, better rope so they could both manage to climb back up. And when they got to the top, Perry saw the bloody rope burns on Clark's hands. Which led Perry to conclude that Clark having super powers was all merely a drunken delusion on his part.

It's going to tie for lost running American sci-fi should ever when it gets a 10th season renewal come May.

In a past interview Rosenbaum said that he'd only come back if it were the series finale.

What I've heard of Rosenbaum is, he'll come back if it's A) critical and B) he can wear a bald cap.

He won't shave his head anymore.

I foresee him being in the eventual series finale.

That is awesome news about Perry returning finally. Maybe the Daily Planet will finally get it's long lasting Editor now.

He would certainly be a welcome addition to the regular cast of the show in my book. If there is to be a tenth season, they need to sign him up for it. And Martha is due for another election cycle, so she should return for at least a few episodes as she "campaigns" to keep her Senate seat.

Unless Martha decides to retire from politics and return home to Smallville. Maybe this is what her appearance is about.

Perry! At last! This is great news. If they can somehow get him in a recurring role, that will bring the show a step closer to the full Metropolis/Daily Planet dynamic we're familiar with. Now if only they had kept Jimmy.

Now if only they had kept Jimmy.

They kinda did.
At Jimmy's funeral, they revealed that the "Jimmy" we'd been following for the previous few years was actually Henry James Olsen, and we saw his camera being given to a preteen relative named James. So the retcon is implicitly that the kid was the real James Bartholomew Olsen who would grow up to become Superman's Pal.

^ Yeah, what I meant was that they shouldn't have retconned Jimmy into "Not Jimmy". I never got the full story on who was responsible for that or why, but it was an incredibly dumb thing to do.

My thoughts, re: Jimmy

I didn't mind it. In the comics, IIRC, Jimmy is much younger than Lois, Clark, et.al. So having him the same age in this series sort of flew in the face of this. It was sort-of lame but I see why they did it.
