Sitting with Total Film to do press for "Broken City" as it rolls out across the pond, Wahlberg shared that had things gone differently, he could have played a supporting role in "Star Trek." "I remember [J.J. Abrams] asking me to play Captain Kirk's father," he shares, adding: "I tried to read the script, but I couldn't understand the words or dialogue or anything, and I said, I couldn't do this."

It was a small role anyway. I'm sure Wahlberg only headlines feature films...

Because Hemsworth's lines were so laden with technobable... Good grief.

That's a weak excuse to dismiss the real reason he didn't want to do it.

I was elated by Chris Hemsworth's performance anyway.

I don't want to bash Pine, but after seeing Hemsworth as George Kirk I was sort of surprised he had the cameo role and not the lead.

I've liked Wahlberg in several things but he feels like a bad fit for Trek anyway, so no big loss IMO.

Chris Hemsworth did just great in my opinion...In fact I will argue that Chris played George Kirk beter than he played THOR.

Also Chris Hemsworth looks more like Chris pine so the father and son thing is quite convincing.

Having since 09 trek countless times, I can say that Mark would not just have been A good fit for the film.

This new cast is perfect.

Gee Mark, isn't it called 'acting'? Nobody was actually asking you to understand shit. Just say the lines and don't bump into the scenery.

I can't really picture Wahlberg in that great opening act. It seems off.
The last time I saw him act was in Ted.

Oh well, it all worked out fine anyway.

Mark was out-acted by a plastic plant in The Happening, I really can't see him in the role.

He was great in Ted though.

SPOCK:
"Welcome aboard, Captain."

(WAHLBERG as KIRK):
"Hey Spock, you a Vulcan, right? How's that goin'? Say hi to your mother for me."

I can picture him with that dazed and confused look he gives in every single movie as the Kelvin slams into Nero's ship.

So he couldn't understand the script for Star Trek, but he could understand the script for Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes movie just fine?

Not quite buying that.

Mark Wahlberg is a fantastic actor when he's really invested in a project. If he wasn't interested in Star Trek, it's a good thing that he didn't do it.
