Mark Kermode Blasts "Quantum of Solace"!

It's not pretty (possible spoilers), but damn funny.

I can't bare to sit through all of his tirade, but I trust Quantum of Solace to be a competent follow up to Casino Royale, while not being as indepth or groundbreaking, but having less pacing issues and tying up loose ends in an entertaining manner, while making new ones.

People forget how poorly plotted GoldenEye was, more poorly plotted than even TND and TWINE, but that didn't stop it from being hugely popular and watchable. But QoS's choice of director not grasping action sequences seems too remeniscant of TWINE.

I found Casino Royale all over the shot and muddle plotted in many places as well, but that didn't stop me from liking it and being immersed. I think this is the GoldenEye factor again (the first movie of a series irrationally prefered over later instalments by bland but vocal fanboys), although not as bad this time round.

On a brighter note, the Quantum criminal/terrorist conspiracy will return. This sounds very exiting and it has so-far given the current run of Bond movies a wider scope and deeper creative depth that was somewhat lacking in most of the Moore/Dalton/Brosnan films (after Fleming and McClory forced SPECTRE down a hole over copyright BS).

This is the same guy who liked Speed Racer.
Kermode has fairly eclectic taste to say the least, but he's still pretty entertaining as a reviewer. His review of Good Luck Chuck is still a personal favourite of mine. :bolian:

Hello to Jason Isaacs and David Morrissey.

I loved the way Kermode rips the PotC franchise into tiny shreds, in one of the funniest YouTube videos ever.

Well, those movies do make the British the badguys. And the Pirates the good guys. So...

There are no baddies or good guys, just confusingly shifting alliances in the overblown sequels, with the Royal Navy being ostensibly good guys in the first movie then getting subverted then replaced by an evil private company run by a sneering aristocrat. And the pirates are mostly British, with the main pirate characters being former employees of either the East Indian Trading Co. or Royal Navy.

I'm not really being too serious. I've looked at a bunch of the guy's reviews. Funny stuff. Though some are apparently blocked from being shown in the USA on youtube for some reason. Naughty language?

Funny, but it can't be taken seriously as a review - he's clearly just trying to shock rather than actually provide any sort of nuanced criticism.
