Mark Gatiss to play the 3rd Doctor at Christmas?

It's just all so very "Moffatty"... If it's an ancestor of the Brigadier, then it's oh so fan-wanky and plot contrived.. If it's Mackenzie-Trench then it's just kind of a "ah.. Well, that's kind of neat" but doesn't really serve the story... Why does the character HAVE to be someone who resonates throughout all of Whovian history? We're already getting the best Christmas present of all, and that being Bradley playing the first Doctor... Plus, Bill returns...

I know. I know.. Reserve judgement until it's seen... I'm just in a bad mood today, I guess.. Frankly I was still holding out hope for Susan to return somehow, which, I also know, in of itself is fan-wanky and contrived... Sigh.. More coffee....

"Someone who resonates throughout all of Whovian history" sounds like the sort of hype we had for that woman from Time of the Doctor who had a history with the Doctor. People were guessing Romana, Susan, The Rani...

Turns out to be someone we've never heard of or seen before, and got killed off. Care factor zero, as the young folks say.

So yeah, Moffat.

...Waits for Moffat to bring in the cast from "Curse of the Fatal Death" ;)
Not only would we get the cool fact from that, but it would finally allow Hugh Grant to redeem his mistake for turning down The Doctor all those years ago when Davies approached him.

Ah, good point there. I hadn't forgotten about that particular hype.

Ah, yes, Mrs "Alex Kingston isn't available so we need a rewrite in a hurry..."

FWIW, I still think Tasha Lem is a post-Silence in the Library River Song. :)

Though it occurred to me recently that the coolest way to do a post-Library River would be to interface the Library to the Ganger Flesh. You need a consciousness to drive a Ganger, River's consciousness is in the Library mainframe, and then it's just a matter of syncing up the wiring. :)

This would also work for Idris, the TARDIS' consciousness.

I agree on Tasha Lem...and also really liked her. It was all one of those interesting ideas that people seem to ignore when frothing at the mouth about their perceptions of Moffat.

What Gatiss playing Susan? That would actually be funny.

Not nearly as funny as watching everyone's heads exploding when they realize that's where it's going. The reaction videos on YouTube alone... priceless. :guffaw:

Of course, it'd be a while before you saw or appreciated any of that, as your own head would have exploded and would take a while to grow back. That you'd waited 53 years for that... such soul-crushing anticlimactic disappointment.

Since we mentioned the Third Doctor... I guess the reason I would've loved to have seen Sean Pertwee be the Third Doctor, would've been to see him a)in the new show, b)act alongside his longtime pal, Peter Capaldi, and c)as an everlasting tribute to Jon Pertwee and his era, which was just as important as Troughton's run, and Tom Baker's early run.

Other than the fact Sean has his father's distinctive nose, I've never seen the spot-on similarity that's supposed to exist between the two of them.

There's a heavier likeness than that, especially vocally when Sean chooses. A lot of it depends on camera angles and occasional body language though. It's not spot on, but it's more there than not there.
