Mario Kart Wii online

Nerdius Maximus

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
I don't know why I never bothered to play online until last week. I'm now addicted to a game I was long ago bored with.
So, what's the point of voting for a course when the game will just randomly choose one anyway? You'll have eight people with the Rainbow Road, and one with the Donkey Kong Mountain, and the DKM will win. WTF?

You're both confused. The game randomly selects a player to determine the next course.

If 75% of the people choose Rainbow Road, then you have a 75% chance of playing Rainbow Road. It's kind of like Congress. Every state (player) gets a vote, but the states with bigger populations (more popular courses) have more influence.

What really throws me off is when they do that "mirror" thing where everything on a track is reversed. I usually end up driving off into the abyss or running into a wall before I realize what's going on.

Ghost Valley? Come on, the course is like twenty seconds long... not too hard to memorize. I vote for it quite a bit since it takes about a minute to win, and crappy players inexplicably drive off the sides and don't take the little shortcut. Also, all the sharp turns make it easy to defend against red shells... great track!

The reason people drive off the sides is that you can't really tell what's directly in front of you unless you're intimately familiar with the track. But yeah, at least it's over with quickly.

I really hate the SNES Ghost Valley. I just roll my eyes when people vote for it. Maple Treeway is my course!:techman:

SNES Ghost Valley is my favourite track! I vote for it all the time! :)
Really? I can't even tell where I'm going on that one. It's confusing to me. I just hope I'm playing with people who suck so I can win.

LOL

The secret is drifting. You basically just drift around the whole track. Once you memorize the turns and are good at drifting, it's good.

I had my first experience(That I can actually say for certain) with cheaters this morning. Some guy whose username actually had the word "hacker" in it started the race by shocking/shrinking everyone as soon as the countdown ended, then proceeded to shoot pairs(two at once, flying together) of blue shells for the rest of the race. It really pissed me off, because I lost a lot of points.

Well, I've gotten good at it now, but at first it really did annoy me. The one that bugs me now is the DK Mountain. I really dislike that one. And I can't figure out this shortcut that I see people doing. It's like they drive off the left side right at the end of that wooden bridge, then reappear in front of you.

Generally I use Toadette with the bullet car, because that's the combination I seem to win the most races with. It's so girly, though. I'm trying to get better with Bowser, because the sounds he makes throughout the race are totally brutal and awesome. He sounds like Nathan Explosion.

I go with Baby Peach on the standard bike. It's like racing with a barbie doll.

I've always been a "lite" racer, though. Never got the hang of the heavies, and the middleweights are all so bland.

Bowser with the Wario Cycle. Pretty badass.
I don't think I've had any cheaters in races. Some get a huge lead because the rest of the pack starts to kill each other and the person in first can just take off, especially if there are no blue shells.

In this case it was undeniable that the person was cheating. Everyone but him got shocked/shrunk before they even took off. And it just got worse from there. Non-stop Shocks and blue shells for the entire race.
