Mario Bros. Animated Movie Coming from Illumination

Negotiations between Nintendo and Illumination have gone on for more than a year, and coincides with a deal struck last year for Universal theme parks to build attractions based on the Mario Bros. property. The video game’s creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, is expected to be a producer on the film and have a say in the creative development, alongside Illumination’s CEO Chris Meledandri. The film is still in the early stages of planning and wouldn’t come out for several years, and would be animated at Illumination’s Paris-based studio Mac Guff.9

Meh, I love almost all the games but not for the story, this one is pure gameplay/level design. But why not?
I haven't seen the live action desaster in it's entirety, I feel I need to do that now...
 
Well, if it's more like the animated series and less like the live-action movie, there's more of a chance for it to stay true to the franchise. The problem with most live-action videogame adaptations in general is that they have to make adjustments for the sake of the making a filmable movie, and more often than not, those changes end up deviating too much from the key hallmarks of a particular IP. It's something that animated movies generally don't have to go through, presenting their true essence.
 
What’s going to be the “wacky” Minion type thing that all the marketing and “humor” will be based on? Goombas or the mushroom people? I’m betting on goombas because traditionally the mushroom people can talk.

Nothing negative to say about this other than they may have played it too safe. Kids will love it. If I was a kid I would love it too. They definitely brought the feel of the video game to the big screen. Don't get the Chris Pratt backlash. He's voicing a New York Italian Plumber that hasn't said much beyond "It's me Mario!" and "Mama Mia!".
 
According to the Direct they did before the trailer, the composer hasn't even started recording yet, but he is working with Koji Kondo to help integrate the themes.
 
This looks really, really fun. Aimed a little young for me, but it looks great and it's nice to see the characters brought to life. I'll see it.
 
That looks like a lot of fun. I've always been more of a Sega and Sony gamer, but I've played enough Nintendo and Mario games to be excited for this.
 
The Mario voice... is just Chris Pratt's voice. No "it's a me!"? Dude's Italian by way of Brooklyn. Don't just talk like Chris Pratt.

I'm guessing "so long, gay Bowser!" isn't gonna make it in, either:lol:

It sounds like he's putting on a bit of a Brooklyn accent at the end.

I don't think we've heard enough of him to really judge, I'm going to wait until we get an actually full scene or at least a conversation.
