March Madness Discussion

If Lousville loses every single one of my brackets is officially crap. :rommie:

Yeah, me too. I almost picked Siena in the first round because I liked the name (know nothing about the school), but I would never have dreamed of putting them over Louisville (I have them winning).

We can all relax, now, guys. Louisville has outlasted Siena. That puts me at 15 out of 16 for this round! The only one I missed had already been set in stone when I picked Wake Forest to make the Sweet 16. Instead, it was the Arizona Wildcards... er, I mean Wildcats.

12/16 in the second round. Three of those were lost in the first round, the only new loss was Washington. Overall a pretty good second round for me, especially since my Elite 8 is still intact.

So, I'm looking in on the Women's tournament this evening. You know, to check up on the Lady Vols. I tune in to ESPN2 and, very quickly, a question forms in my mind.... one which has a convenient abbreviation.... Goes a little something like this: *clears throat* WTF?!

I mean, if you heard about a first-round matchup between a two-time defending national champion (granted, those girls have all graduated) and a twelfth-seeded NCAA tournament virgin, what would you expect from a game like that?

Uh oh. Not a good year for Tennessee basketball all around, huh? :censored:

Tennessee athletics as a whole is pretty much on a downhill slide. The baseball team hasn't been worth a darn since the days of Todd Helton, and the football team suffered its second 7-loss season in school history last year. Tune in again this fall, kiddies.... :(

Well, I just had to make my annual appearance in this thread to say, how about those Xavier Musketeers!!!! Back to the Sweet 16 after graduating their starting backcourt! Beat Pittsburgh!

After this past weekend, a couple of thoughts:

- remind me to NEVER put any faith in Wake Forest ever again.

- the top three seeds have survived in all regions so far. When did that happen last?

- Arizona is the only PAC-10 team left..... maybe the selection committee knew what they were talking about after all. My apologies for being so critical of that pick.

- Siena was no Cinderella. THey were a #9 seed who beat a #8 seed (imho an overrated OSU :p ) and gave heart attacks to Louisville fans, as well as a host of bracketologists everywhere.

- UConn.... everyone run for the hills and be glad they don't have Dyson!

- Marquette... an inspiring run even if it was only two games. but you didn't get jobbed. I've read explanations of the rules and, while the substitution at the end seemed a little suspicious at first.... it was in the rules and the guy who ended up shooting the FTs had a worse percentage than the guy he momentarily replaced.

- Blake Griffin is THE stud of the tournament so far, and ought to be name Player of the Year right now.

Blake Griffin makes an impact. He's better than DiJuan Blair by half. The only reason Oklahoma won't go all the way is because of its dreadful free throw shooting.

Cruelly ironic, considering their next opponent is Syracuse, whose speciality this year happens to be free throws.

That free throw shooting for the 'Cuse was what won that 6 OT game against UConn. But in all fairness, I think there are a couple of other teams not so hot with the charity stripe. Louisville, for one.

Eddie Sutton coached a few teams back in the day who knew how to dissect Syracuse's zone. Jeff Capel better give him a call. Syracuse was one of the few teams I didn't want Oklahoma to have to play.

I am really worried about the UConn/Purdue game. I picked the upset, but of all the top seeds, UConn has been the most impressive. Hope it turns out that they will be the first number 1 knocked off.

so far, so good for team Scout :)

Yeah, I just went through the scenario generator: Unless some really weird things happen, you've got the upper hand.

I'm now rooting for Gonzaga, but only because they were my blind draw on one of my bar boards.

Interesting, because I went through the Senario Generator as well and I'm in pretty good shape, even if Purdue loses to Uconn this week.

Well, I didn't check every possible scenario- I just plugged in some possible results to see how things would end up. Most of the ones I entered had Scout coming out on top. After going back and trying some other scenarios, it showed quite a few folks (including you) are still in the running.

I feel a little better about the Lady Vols losing, knowing that they're taking North Carolina and Auburn down with them. Did any of you see that Auburn/Rutgers game? My god, the "gnappy-headed hos" had that game sealed EARLY. I think it was something like 22-4 there in the first few minutes, and it ended up 80-52! Auburn's worst tournament loss in school history (this time by the game's final margin, not the round in which it was played). And the Auburn girls have been tough to beat this year!
