March Madness Discussion

Don't hold your breath, but I seriously doubt we'll see a more one-sided game tonight than the ones we got this afternoon.

Aw, poor Huskies. :( They dug themselves too big a hole in the first half. Good on them though, they won the Pac-10 after being picked to finish 5th. Brockman and Dentmon are gone after this year, but the future looks bright.

In a more immediate note, go Gonzaga! :)

I'm kind of sorry the Huskies lost too. I would have liked to see them go on for another week.

No real upsets today yet.

Yeah, the Huskies (Washington) have nothing to be ashamed of. They had a heck of a season and it was an exciting game today.

The commentators for this Gonzaga/WKU game must have a bet to see how many times they can say "Mendez-Valdez" in the game. :)

Yeah! What a finish! I thought Gonzaga had blown it for sure.

Dammit Texas!!! If you could freaking hold on to that ball with 11 seconds left you'd have had a legitimate shot to tie the game but noooooo....you had to let Duke get it back. :scream: :scream:

Are the officials calling these games too tight? It seemed like just fighting for the ball would have been a foul, and that even someone barely touches the other guy that is a foul. I really really hate it when the game is won at the free throw line and a lot of these games really seem to be left on the line instead of good play. I was really ticked about how Texas ended that game tonight.

As for the Gonzaga game, there was a mention about the Ohio St. Siena game ending like the Tennessee game. Well, I thought the Gonzaga game ended exactly like the Tennessee game. Don't these players know to defend the perimeter to prevent the open layup?

Apparently not....

At any rate, I actually managed to go 100% in my picks for today's games. That maintains my edge over President Obama's "Barack-etology." :bolian:

Why was I so stupid and picked Texas. Might be the biggest question I have for this tournament. The scary thing is if they played smarter, they could have won.

No no no no no. My Cowboys are up on Pitt. I'm starting to dare to hope. Somebody stop me before my heart gets broken. :scream: My Cowboys have broken my heart in the NCAA in a myriad of crushing ways. So far Pitt isn't running over them by any means. My Cowboys are holding their own and then some.

Knock on wood. Pitt's going to wake up at some point. It's 23-15 OSU at the moment.

No sooner did I say it then Pitt comes roaring back. sigh That didn't take long. Oh no!!! Eaton is down!!! Pitt's big bruiser stepped on his shoulder on the floor. He's writhing in pain on the sideline.

Damn. :( He's their leader. Psychologically they just don't do well without him.

Tied 49 all at the half. State could have gone in up by 3, but they had to commit a stupid ticky tack foul with 16 seconds left, then let Pitt get the rebound on a miss because apparently everyone thought it was a two shot foul and no one went for the rebound. :scream: They play such smart ball all half long and then they end the half with 2 stupid bonehead beyond belief moves. ARRRRRGGGHHH!!! Of course Pitt went SWISH! nothing but net with the last shot. A basket and free throw basket here and there will cost them the game. I hate it when they do dumb things!!! Eaton gets back in the game like a trouper and then he gets his second foul before half . Unnecessary. We need every player not in foul trouble that we can get. DiJuan Blair didn't have a great half, and State didn't take enough advantage of that. How many halves does DiJuan Blair only score 1 point?

EDIT--And my Cowboys have gone ice cold shooting in the 2nd half. :( Pitt finally decided it needed to wake up. Rebounding lights out. Blocking shots like their lives depend on it. Cowboys scored 4 points in 10 minutes. sigh I've seen this scenario before, unfortunately.

Heheh... here come the 'Boys again... up 72-71, led by Eaton. This has ben an awesome game!

I knew they'd make a comeback and then break my heart. Oh, my scrappy little Cowboys. :( One last 3 pointer from Pitt at a crucial moment when they haven't been shooting them for crap all day, and a 2 pointer by DiJuan Blair in the paint and the rally is gone. You didn't put the nail in the coffin in the first half. Up by 8, you should have buried them but you let them back in. At least they fought hard and didn't give up and suffer a blowout.

Ahead by a point with 3 minutes left. :( My Cowboys always do this in the tourney against a higher seed. They fight like scrappers and get your hopes up. Now my team's out and my brackets are shot to hell. :klingon:

That was a heckuva game though. Yeah, it's tough to take a loss like that, but Pitt's a great team, too.

That looked almost identical to Pitt's performance against ETSU. Either they're going to learn a lot from these first and second round games and then plow their way through to the Final Four.... OR they'll continue to play the way they have been and, thus, won't be long for this world.

I'll recover. I need to pout for awhile and then I'll get over it. Yeah, at the critical moment Pitt pulled it out. Winning teams do that a crucial moment, but winning teams need to play to their potential. Pitt hasn't done that the past two games. They had to do it the second half of the OSU game to beat them. It only gets more difficult when they get to the sweet sixteen. They've got to play 40 minutes of ball. Slumbering in the first half won't make it next week. They could win it all, or lose in the round of 16. Both equally possible.

OSU absolutely maximized their potential. They are so thin on the bench and they are so small. Not a starter over 6'6". A team with a big bruiser on the inside like Pitt should have slaughtered them but they didn't. I was proud of them. They didn't give up. As for Pitt, I was more impressed with Fields than I was with Blair. Far more impressed. Fields is much more complete and versatile and tougher IMO.

sigh What could have been.

sigh What could have been.

I sympathize with ya. Your Cowboys played two very good games in this tournament. One was good enough to beat a Tennessee team that, comparatively speaking, is nowhere near the quality basketball club it was last season. The second was almost good enough to take down one of the four best teams of the 2008-'09 season, one which hasn't been looking like themselves as of late. Pitt really needs to figure their stuff out, or else teams like Xavier, Villanova or Duke will finish the job started by ETSU and Oklahoma State.

The one that's scaring me right now is UConn, who have simply been on fire since their 6 OT loss to Syracuse. And the women's team is even better!

The kicker with the UConn men's team is that the're stl doing this without arguably their best player in Jerome Dyson.

Man .... this is the craziest day! Siena is now LEADING Louisville, and Marquette is now ahead by 3 over Missouri!!!
