March Madness Discussion

Only saying this based on personal emotion, so don't take it anyway other than that: Cal got screwed. They have to play both Maryland and then if they get past that possibly Memphis. Good luck with that. :(

I'm quite surprised St. Marys didn't get in. Almost bummed in fact. It will be tough picking the teams this year I think.

Well, fuck that. Penn State has their best record in school history and gets snubbed. That just killed my interest in this tourney.

I haven't lost my interest, but.... when Penn St stays home while ARIZONA goes.... :wtf: ?

Hold the phone, here.... Louisville is the overall #1 seed? LOUISVILLE?! How'd that happen? I know they're good this year, but wow....

....and the rumors were true. 3 of the 4 #1 seeds came from the Big East Conference. That's gotta be some kind of record-setter.

Yeah, I think they gave way too much credit to the Big East. Sure they have good teams, but that seems a bit too much.

Gosh, I was hoping Okie State's high RPI would have earned them a higher seed than an 8. Pitt's going to steamroll over them with relish if OSU makes it to the second round. Back in '04, OSU knocked out Pitt in a contentious game.

It's not the first time the Big East has had three #1 seeds, though. I can't remember when... maybe back when Villanova beat Georgetown in 1985

But for my money... Louisville deserves the #1 seed as much if not more than as anyone else. They won the Big East reg season title and tournament, which neither Pitt nor UConn nor UNC for that matter could do. Memphis plays in a significantly weaker conference. The Big East is the recognized strongest conference this year, with only the ACC really giving it any competition for that.

Who else would be #1 if not Louisville?

Good point, and it's something I hadn't considered when I made my previous post. I'd completely forgotten that they'd won their conference, even though I'd been following Syracuse (the team they beat for the Big East championship) rather closely.

The Big East teams absolutely deserve their top seeds, even over Duke, Michigan State and Memphis.

It's an absolute travesty that Arizona is in and St. Mary's is out.

That is all.

Surprised (but glad) Minnesota got the #10 seed in their bracket- I was expecting a much lower seeding. They still won't go far, but I think they have a chance against Texas.

Also surprised that Penn State didn't get in- there are several teams (including at least one other team from the Big 10) that were far less deserving.

Yeah, I think they deserved to get in. I know there's the argument that they're out of conference schedule wasn't very strong, but they still had quality wins against the best in the big 10. They were always clearly a bubble team, but I think they deserved to be in, instead of out.

The way things have looked, Tubby Smith has the Gopher moving in the right direction. They are consistently competitive again.

The Gophers have looked pretty good lately. Not up to the level of the top seeds, but they certainly have a shot at moving on.

I'd love to see North Dakota upset Kansas, but even though they'll be playing their first round in Minneapolis and should have a large contingent of fans (in addition to being close to home, 8 of 12 of their players are from MN), I'm pretty sure that isn't going to happen.

North Dakota is one of those "sexy" pics for a first round upset. Good, experienced players with a solid backcourt apparently. Just the kind of team to give a younger team like Kansas nightmares.

My bracket is done. I've done fairly well in recent years. My big upset pick is Gonzaga over North Carolina - the Bulldogs are peaking at the right time and have shown the ability to beat powerful teams, while the Tar Heels are a bit injured. But we'll see. :)
