Maple Story, what's it like?

I'm wondering if it may be worth trying Maple Story, does anyone play it? What's the game like, is it a big download?

I'm not too keen on it. I didn't get very far, but I do seem to recall some VERY shoddy quest level management. I accepted a quest and raised enough in-game currency to get the "transport" to the right part of the game, but when I got there, everything was about fifty levels higher than me, and I didn't have the currency to get back! That put me right off it, and I never played again.
