Manny Ramierez suspended 50 games

I think it's time for everyone to accept that just about everyone in the major leagues uses or has used some sort of performance-enhancing substances.

In fact, I'm pretty sure there are even drugs that enhance your scrappiness, and Nick Punto and David Eckstein are freebasing them.

If you believe that...fine. But why call out just Ortiz? Why not Derrick Lee or Aramis Ramirez?

While Gregg Zaun is proof positive that juicing doesn't magically make you a good hitter, forgive me for being a bit suspicious of a guy who suddenly learned how to become a monster hitter when he went to Boston, and is now breaking down at the tender age of 33, inexplicably unable to hit a ball more than thirty feet. (That, and I hate fat designated hitters. Well, all designated hitters.) So all I'm saying is that I wouldn't be surprised if he, or Pujols, or any other big-name slugger came up in the news.

As for Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez, hell, even Ryan goddamn Theriot ... you know, it wouldn't shock me if one of them tested positive, and I honestly wouldn't care, outside of the disappointment that I'd have at seeing a bat getting taken out of the Cubs' lineup for a third of the season. (Unless it was Alfonso Soriano's.)

Any evidence to support that statement? Or is that just blind speculation? Or wishes?

Interesting to say the least...

Not wanting to be accusatory or anything, but why is Ortiz sucking this year? Why was he so clutch in 2004 but in 2009 he can't hit the back side of a barn? Just asking.

Why do children speak badly when they are 2, but can talk really well when they are 7?

Because it's 5 years later!

So everyone who was once great gets worse and it must be because he used steroids!

For crying out loud,

I didn't say that. Everyone is getting all defensive, and I just asked the question because Ortiz was brought up. Whether or not he used it doesn't make my question less relavent. Ortiz isn't having a good year so far, I hope he gets better, but the facts are the facts. I said nothing about Stariods.

Back the fuck off.

We all know the biggest steroid offender of the modern era is Willie Bloomquist. One extra base hit all of last year, one home run part-way into May already!!! :p

Manny's a friggin' idiot. He might've just cost himself a spot in the Hall.

I'm liking the acquisition of Jason Bay more and more now, especially after the hurt he helped lay on the Indians tonight.

I have liked Bay since the Sox got him, he won the first game with them. People seem to finally warming up to him and I'm glad.

Got off easy IMO. They need to start banning mlb players that use steriods if they ever want players to take this seriously.

It's 50, get caught again it's a year, get caught again I think it's 3 or 5 years.

But yeah, get caught once you get 50 games off to explain why you were taking the drugs. If there is no reason your gone, enough with the bullshit.

Technically Ramirez was suspended for using HCG, which is not a steroid but a female fertility drug that is used by steroid users to restore testosterone production to normal levels. It also has a legitimate use to increase testosterone for those with low testosterone. It IS banned however. I just wish the media would stop saying its a steroid. Once again showing their ignorance.

The situation is interesting, because Ramirez has passed many drug tests in the past, so there may be a way for him to legitimize his use of the substance.

RAMA

THAT, or he tooks steroids during the off-season while working out, and then took this in the spring to restart his testosterone production, plus mask the remains of the steroids a bit. Which seems a hell of a lot more likely.

Sad, since he's a gifted player that didn't need to be doing any of this, but yeah...
